Bad Rx reaction

wow i didnt realize there were so many of us.....i get the itchies...from vics and still have pain....i have to take percodans...explain to your doctor that you are allergic...dont expect them to smile at this news..they dont....and tell them you need something else...no use being in pain...

part of the problem is that doctors can fill the vics out of their office..they cannot do that with percs and have to explain all percs and why it was given instead of vics. but it is worth the time to discuss with your doctor

Get a 10 year old to snag a couple of joints and a few Xanax.
If you don't like the idea of smoking just eat the joints and chase it with some orange juice .NEVER GRAPEFRUIT .
The Xanax is only if you can not sleep.

30 a day lol right...no just 30....he has this uncanny ability to know exactly how long the pain is gonna last...and if i am good he will kick me a couple of extra but thats it

Oh come on...30 a day is nothing!

I have cervical stenosis, which is a spurred growth inside a vertebra which presses against the spinal cord when lying down. I take 1/2 of a 5mg Percocet (which also contains 325 mg acetaminophen) ten minutes before bed. That gets me to sleep for at least 3-4 hours. When the pain wakes me I take the other half.

I've been doing this on a daily basis for almost two years. The Percocet works for me with no unpleasant effect. There occasionally is a mild pleasure effect, which approximates a marijuana contact high but nothing stronger. And in spite of what we hear about the powerful addictive effect of Percocet I have never experienced a craving for it. In fact I sometimes forget to take it until I lie down and the pain reminds me.

The alternative to this therapy is spinal surgery, which I don't want and my doctor advises against.

So I suggest that anyone who is having a bad reaction to Vicodin should ask for Percocet instead.

The best thing that ever happened for consumers is the law that prescription drug ads have to include the possible side effects of the drug. It's like a comedy-drama listening to the way the actors pushing the medication try to explain the side effects which sometime include "fatal episodes". There's a popular professonal golfer (not Tiger) pushing a arthritis drug that lowers the immune system which might lead to bad stuff. The only thing I would suggest is that celebrity prescription drug pushers should be required to reveal the compensation they get from the ad-agencies/drug companies for acting in the ads.

Yikes. For reasons I won't go into, I was prescribed Vicodin (10 mg/325 mg Acetominiphine) for pain, and had a severe reaction to it last night.

First extremely sleepy (which I expected, so I didn't take the first dose until I was ready to call it a night), but a half hour later, I felt flushed which within minutes turned to being soaked in sweat, dizzy, nauseated and eventually threw up). I took my BP which was way low at 97/59/61. I thereafter sat very still and took my BP at half-hour intervals until about 2 hours later when it was back to normal at 121/60/73.

And the worst part is that IT DIDN'T RELIEVE THE PAIN AT ALL.

My experience aside, I keep wondering what the attraction is to prescription drugs in the first place to take as some kind of "escape" from some part of one's life they wish to dull. I would think that anyone having a reaction like mine would just say no to experimenting with such opiates that can cause this kind of reaction, especially considering the possibility of becoming addicted. It was very scary and I was this far away from calling 911.

Hey Magoo,

No joke. That could be a sign of a drug interaction.

Fwiw, I suggest you call your doctor (not the pharmacist) about your described reaction, pronto. Just to be on the safe side, I mean. IF your doc says it's nothing to worry about, the call was a mild waste of time and cheap insurance. But if the reaction was a drug interaction, it might be a good idea to play it safe and make sure that it doesn't cause any other health problems for you.

Thanks. The one that prescribed it is the same doc I've been seeing for a variety of more minor issues for over 5 years, so he well knows other scrips I'm taking. But that crossed my mind too. He had first described a lower dose, which did absolutely nothing, so when I told him that, it was then that he doubled the dose and I had the reaction. I've only taken the one pill (dose), and today I will see an ENT specialist who will hopefully spend more time on the problem. Only one thing is clear, and that's that I have a bacterial infection that was suspected to have spread to other areas in the vicinity by a sinus infection. But that has never been verified by any cultural or other lab tests. So I have that today, and I plan to inquire about alternative pain medications.

Been taking Vicodin/Hydrocodone for 15 years for degenerative disc disease.
And taking Oxycodone and other opiates for several years now for worse problems.
No bad reactions and no Buzz of any type for me from either one. I guess because I really needed the pain relief.

You should see the "pills" from here. In southern WV you dont see any street drugs beside pot. Its all prescription drugs. It has ruined many many lives. People OD on the side of the road here a lot. I have lost three 1st cousins to ODs on pain killers.

Doctors around here are just drug dealers. It sickens me to go to a doctor around here. They dont want to treat anything just write you some pills. I lost the 4th and 5th fingers on my left hand a few years ago and I filled all the Percocets the doctor gave me but did not take any of them. I counted them one day I had over 400 pills. At street value thats 10,000 dollars in my town. I burned them in my coal stove.

It's a HUGE problem nationwide but concentrated in certain areas for some reason.

I got a new prescription yesterday for Tramadol/Acetaminophen (37.5/325), which so far has worked pretty well. I can also take Ibuprofen between doses if needed.

I don't remember which of you recommended Tramadol, but I looked it up online and it seemed like it would be a good fit, so I asked for it (or something similar). So THANKS to whomever posted the recommendation.

I appreciate everyone's suggestions and contributions.

Glad you found something that works for you!

It's amazing how much people vary in their reactions to drugs, and a bit scary how random it is.
