Back When Football Was Fun

Pro football bores the snot out of me. Between the huddles, timeouts, commercials, blabbering commentators and an endless array of penalties that suggests these guys should be wearing tutus, I can't muster a care for the few seconds of actual sport here and there. There's more action in a Sunday afternoon golf match.

A manly game ...

Man I loved that team! Riggins just ran over the Cowboys that day.

I am a Giants fan and I hated going up against John Riggins

Tony Dorsett, Walter Payton, Eric Dickerson....I could take. They would just bust off an occasional big run

Riggins would just pound you all day long. By the fourth quarter, your defense was shot. Just keep moving the chains and keep the drive going

Yep, Riggo and the Hogs was the definition of smash mouth. He was a character too.

College ball is where its at!

amen to that.Back in the 70;s and even in the 80's the NFL was not corrupt as it is now with so many home town refs, the cheaters getting away with scandal after scandal and teams moving at the drop of a dime which did start in the 80's but really esculated in the 90's and is starting all over again.the Rams going back to LA is the ONLY move that was justified.Teams are also allowed as well apparently now to make up NFL relocation rules that they dont even have to follow. :rolleyes:what is the point in making rules if they are not going to follow and abide by them?

Okay so the NFL can make rules but they dont have to follow them now? okay, gotcha.

College football you dont have to worry about a university up and leaving.go UCLA.

Football in the 80s and 90s was more fun

You actually had a balance between the offensive and defensive side of the ball
You actually had a balance between the running game and passing game
Kickers actually missed field goals inside the 50 and it was worth watching a kickoff

Now it is all set up for fantasy football fans

College football is a joke with the conferences shuffling teams in and out
It used to be a big deal to win your conference championship

Shuffling teams in and out? You make it sound like a revolving door.

Winning your conference IS a big deal. But winning the national championship will always be the goal.

that describes it to a TEE what the NFL is,shuffling teams in and out a revolving door. Its a sick joke when NFL owners give a middle finger to the Fans that supported them for DECADES putting brand new shiny stadiums over history and tradition. I honestly dont expect the league to be around more than 20 years as a result.25 at the most,

Lets look at the facts. The Chargers have gone from packing them every sunday to having stadiums where 3/4ths of the stadium is empty now and so has the 49ers with their move to santa clara.

that will continue even if they are winners. The Raiders found that out the hard way when they moved to LA. their last year in oakland in the early 80's when they won the superbowl, their first game in LA drew just 42,000 fans.

The year they won the superbowl out there in LA,the next season for their home opener it was not much better with a crowd of just 46,000. that was the NORMAL crowds they drew out there:lmao:. The OAKLAND Raiders might have won a superbowl out there in LA but clearly nobody out there cared and they wont in santa clara either.:lmao: Al Davis shortly after being out there a few years even hinted he missed being an Oakland making a public statement he missed the load roar of the OAKLAND crowds back in oakland.

The Chargers every sunday afternoon in san diego,it was the norm for them to draw crowds just like this below. this is from a seahawks.chargers game two years ago in SD. How can that be good for the NFL going from that.

to this in LA for the chargers AND the NFL?:uhoh3:

Anquity who is a Seahawks fans watched the chargers first game in LA and he said the majority of the 20,000 fans that showed up in the 28,000 seat capacity were seahawk fans so that means only about 5,000 CHARGER fans showed up in LA for that game.:lmao:

thats as bad as when the rams were in st louis which was the case the majority of time for them when they were there as well.:haha::haha::lmao::lmao::lmao:

oh and the 49ers have had the same problem in SANTA CLARA.the fans in SF cant afford the high skyrocket prices out there so they are not going out of the city to see them anymore as they did in SF when they were horrible and a joke team which is WHY the crowds for the whole game yesterday looked like this below.:haha::lmao:

There is no conference loyalty anymore

They used to represent regions. Now it seems whoever can bring the most TV revenue

I disagree. Conference loyalty is still there. But it matters less. And the regions don't matter now. They did when only a few games were televised. Now almost every game can be seen on TV.
