I am a board member of the Louisville Astronomical Society (which has been around for 80 years this year), and have been an avid amateur astronomer for most of my life. I recently created a video tribute to Astronomy. The background song is a live rendition of the song Awaken, by the Rock group YES. I believe that the images I've chosen fit this song perfectly. It is of moderate length (19:35 minutes), and is high definition (1080p). All of the photos are mine, except the image of me, which was taken by a member of the Louisville Astronomical Society. In addition, there is a short video of a corona mass ejection taken by the SDO. Have patience with it (I know it is a bit long - what Yes song isn't?), and you won't be disappointed, but you may be mesmerized. I've tried to give the stars the feeling of motion, hopefully without being chincy. There are some cool effects that will wow you, especially the final star sequence (with Vega slowly moving and changing colors). And please stay tuned all the way to the special message at the end by someone famous that plays during the credits.

Put it on the big screen, and crank it up! Enjoy...

Produced, directed, and edited by me (orogenicman), so I take all the credit (or blame).

I have a pair of Oberwerks 20x80 binoculars that I put on a tripod for star gazing on cloudless nights.

Thanks, folks.

You can see a lot with a good pair of binoculars.

For those who are interested in the history of astronomy, the book Astronomy For Everybody: A Popular Exposition Of The Wonders Of The Heavens by Simon Newcomb.

In 1888, Newcomb is quoted as saying: "We are probably nearing the limit of all we can know about astronomy".

Telescopes are pretty affordable. We have a very nice one at our lake house because there is absolutely no light pollution there. Wonderful.

Very well done, orogenicman. Love the star party set up at the beginning. That's something we enjoy doing with friends.

Really superb. Thank you.

That is absolutely right. Congratulations!

Excellent shots! I especially liked the funky color morphs you did. The one zoomed in on the Trapezium is really cool. I'm envious of you for getting good weather for the transit of Venus. I prepped for that one for a few days and we were socked in with clouds - aaarrrrrrgggghhhh!!!!

Thanks. The Venus shots were not what I hoped for because we too had clouds, but near sunset they parted enough to get a few minutes of video and some decent stills. You take what you can get.

Your presentation is sublimate, elevate for soul and intellect. It is through came to me the your unanswerable questions by unspoken words in my mind, (in Hungarian language). These are my thoughts? :wink_2: (I would like you to know that I did not understand all the words in music, still I can read and write English better.)
