Ray Hadley, OAM
BIOGRAPHY

In 1981, 2GB broadcaster Ray Hadley stumbled upon what would be the luckiest fare of his life when he picked up a radio news director in his taxi, a moment that would see a former auctioneer turned Sydney cabbie transformed into Australia's leading mornings broadcaster.

The following year he officially started broadcasting, and in 2012 he celebrated three decades in a career which has made him the voice of the 'Aussie battler.'

Ray holds an extensive lead over his nearest competitor and has been the number one mornings announcer for nine years running at 2GB.

Ray joined Macquarie Radio Network's (MRN) 2GB in October 2001, at the request of Australian media icon John Singleton. Soon after, he started presenting the breakfast program until Alan Jones arrived in April of 2002.

Then he embarked on 'The Ray Hadley Morning Show' every weekday and continuing the success of the 'Continuous Call Team' on the weekends. His programs are now networked to stations throughout Australia.

Ray's talents in sports broadcasting have seen him cover 63 State of Origins, 22 Rugby League Grand Finals, six Olympic Games (1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012) and the Rugby World Cup (1991, 2003 and 2011). He's led the everpopular Continuous Call Team on air for more than 26 years.

In 2002, Ray was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for service to rugby league as a broadcaster, and to the community, particularly through fundraising for charitable organisations.

Ray has been named Australia's Best Radio Sports Broadcaster for 10 of the past 14 years and has won 23 ACRA awards. The awards have recognised everything from his sports presenting skills – including NRL Grand Finals and the Olympics - to his ongoing success commenting on news and current affairs to a national audience.

It's been confirmed Ray is the most awarded broadcaster in the history of the ACRAS.

Ray has four children and lives in Sydney's north-west.

When is Australia going to start it's own "messageboard" and stop clogging up ours with tidbits from something called ACRAS?

The Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs) are held annually by Commercial Radio Australia. The ACRAs, previously known as the RAWARDS were first held by FARB in 1989. Each year the ACRAs are held as part of the Awards weekend in either Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or the Gold Coast.
