It's finally coming out on the 15th of April!!! Part 1 is anyways. I read the book and it was great, but the movie looks to be just on par with the book. If you love capitalism and you love supporting the people who drive the worlds economic engine, you will love this movie. It shows how leftists try and infiltrate and sabotage businesses and bring down the people who produce and create jobs, and it shows how they try to do it in the name of the "People" and the entitlement class.
Here is the trailer.

If the movie is anything like the book, it's going to be an epic snoozefest. It's all caricature with very little, if anything, resembling reality.

The protagonists were definitely two-dimensional cartoons.

Rand, however, had her antagonists nailed....Authoritarian thugs and looters are as two-dimensional in real life as they are in her dreary novels.

It goes for all the characters. Your analysis is purely political. There's no litereray evidence she changed how she portrayed the two sides.

I'll pass. Having read the book - and other Ayn Rand novels - as well as The Jungle I'll wait for the double bill so both sides of the issue can be fully appreciated.

Well at last we can agree, Dick Cheney is the archetype two-dimensional man by your definition.

Wow....Right on cue!

I hope its a big hit and causes massive discussion of its ideas.

If the American people truely have this discussion the failed ideas of rand will be serverely damaged in the public light.

truely .... sorry tm... i couldn't resist. you are open minded at least, which is rare for your team

With the impending release of the movie based on the book "Atlas Shrugged" due out in 2011 people everywhere are speculating that the movie could start a revolution in this country.

Austin, TX, April 06, 2009 -- Fans of the the famous book "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand now have something to look forward to. They also have something to wear. If you have not recently seen anyone wearing a shirt that says "Who is John Galt?", that may quickly change.

With the impending release of the movie based on the book "Atlas Shrugged" due out in 2011 people everywhere are speculating that the movie could start a revolution in this country. Amid the backdrop of the global financial crisis people all over the US have been threatening to "Go Galt." To potentially help with this process are some stores on the web selling clothing with famous quotes from the book as well as bumper stickers and other merchandise so they can wear their "passion" for individualism and the ideas within the book.

JohnGaltGear.com, a web store
solely specializing in t-shirts and clothing for Aynd Rand fans and Objectivists, is dedicated to helping people "Go Galt". The store has a new shirt with the phrase "Gone Galt. Since 1957". The store's most popular product is a shirt with the quote "Who is John Galt?". Other popular sellers are differently themed John Galt shirts and John Galt bumper stickers with the famous quote from the book. The site even has some less common gifts for fans of Atlas Shrugged like store branded usb thumb drives, door mats, and mugs that say "Who is John Galt?".

I am sure the movie will do very well, fantasy being ever popular. "Atlas Shrugged" and the "Wizard of Oz" are about equal in the reality department.

don't forget "an inconvenient troof" very popular with the ravers.

I'm sure most of the wingnuts and other assorted libertarians on-board missed it but the Randian revolution of greediness has always been with us humans to a greater or lesser extent. The problem is like all ideologies, her ideas are no more beneficial or workable than any other. That her superman and woman, Barbie and Ken are dreams, is evidenced by her own weird and odd life. Children enjoy fantasies and there are lots of cops and robber shows to keep their childish notions alive. Judt's book noted below covers the impact of another period of self centered ideology.

"....If Marxism is the delusion that one can run society purely on altruism and collectivism, then libertarianism is the mirror-image delusion that one can run it purely on selfishness and individualism. Society in fact requires both individualism and collectivism, both selfishness and altruism, to function. Like Marxism, libertarianism offers the fraudulent intellectual security of a complete a priori account of the political good without the effort of empirical investigation. Like Marxism, it aspires, overtly or covertly, to reduce social life to economics. And like Marxism, it has its historical myths and a genius for making its followers feel like an elect unbound by the moral rules of their society." Robert Locke The American Conservative -- Marxism of the Right

Why is libertarianism wrong?

Why I Am Not a Libertarian

"Something is profoundly wrong with the way we live today. For thirty years we have made a virtue out of the pursuit of material self-interest: indeed, this very pursuit now constitutes whatever remains of our sense of collective purpose. We know what things cost but have no idea what they are worth. We no longer ask of a judicial ruling or a legislative act: is it good? Is it fair? Is it just? Is it right? Will it help bring about a better society or a better world? Those used to be the political questions, even if they invited no easy answers. We must learn once again to pose them." Tony Judt 'Ill Fares the Land'
