At What Date Does Obama Accept Responsibility for the Economy?

How about after the effects of the policies that are coming on line now, have time to play out in the economy?

Given that I don't entirely blame Bush II for the economy he handed off, I won't entirely blame Obama for what happens on his watch, either.

The economy is BIGGER than the POTUS, folks.

I have to agree with you on this. However, if the stimulus turns out to be a bust and does more harm than good, then it will be time to pin blame on Obama and the Dems. At the same time, if things turn around once this stimulus package has had time to take hold, then Obama and the Dems should receive credit.

The biggest problem Obama faces is that even if the economy does turn around, it's not likely to start a long stretch of real growth. And we're going to have to deal with the consequences of all this additional borrowing.

Yes, the embolden sentence above is a fair approach to judging Obama's administration.

To the extent that any administration has any control over the economy (and that's not really aas much as we think, I think) Obama has to assume some degree of responsibility for what his administration does.

I do NOT think this economy is really going to revive itself.

It might have a temporay recovery, but the system itself is flawed and those flaws are going to keep screwing the economy.

I would say by the next election for certain...that's usually when accountability comes in to play.

He should NEVER get the blame for "breaking" our economy, that happened the previous 8 years.

He will get blamed if he can't bring us out of this hole we are in, if he doesn't pull us out of it by his next election...imho.

Hold it--Let us not forget that we were doing "stimulus packages" since early 2008!!

The economy is broke, and it has more to do with the Banks than either party.

Who is for nationalizing Bank of America???(WTWNGCOT)

Dow was down 300 points today.

Many economists now say BO's gov is way to rosey in it's forcasts, the debt could grow to 4.5 trillion in 4 years.

BO annouced another bailout of AiG, the third time for this one.

It's not getting better, we are in freefall.

How long did it take for Bush to spend the surplus he was given.

What an asshole question: 6 months, 2 weeks, 3 days, 8 hours, 10 minutes and 44 seconds.

Who the fuck cares what Bush did, is that going to be your answer the rest of your life?

Newsflash: Bush ain't POTUS, and even when that dickwad was, he didn't spend like this fool BO does.

Think of the nation for god sake instead of this endless partsian bullshit.

You guys need to realise that this economic disaster is BOTH PARTIES FAULT! You know these elected politicians love to see us at each other throats--so we ignore what they're doing. If you really bring it down to brass tacs--democrats & republicans want the same things--the argument comes from how to get to those things. That's where the disagreement is.

We all know where our economic collapse started. Freddie & Fannie is ground zero for all of this. Mortgages that were backed by the American taxpayer--banks pressured by our government on their very liberal agenda--"that "everyone" deserves homeownership." It's no secret that democrats on the hill started this policy & then pressured banks into lowering credit & down payment requirements. Republicans ignored it, because they wanted to tout the economic growth that housing produced. All were warned of the dangers of this very risky policy & both parties completely ignored those warnings.

So let's stop blaming one party or the other & start blaming our big spending, reckless, mis-managed federal government for this economic disaster. And I mean democrats & republicans. Let's start holding their feet to the fire.

And above all--let's remember what happens when we elect a bunch of silver spoon fed, never had to balance a checkbook or work within a budget, never got hands dirty in their lives, never run or managed their own business, never had to make a payroll--to elected office. All we have now is a bunch of Harvard & Yale fricking lawyers running this government. It's time for a major change. Let's remember that next election cycle.

Congress has "the power of the purse".

Always have.

No matter if it's Reagan pulling the Dem congress to the right, or Newt's Congress pulling Clinton to the right.

So long as we stay away from socialism, we can survive and thrive.

Capitalism... where the rich get richer and the poor get richer!

you mean the dem policies since they won in 2006?
only took them 11 months to make it happen
now they have to live with the results
