“At a certain point, you’ve made enough money”

This is why I can’t take Liberals seriously in their convictions. They wag their finger at the Middle Class to not make too much money. Here’s Obama and his Family living in an $8M DC home and going on a high-end European vacation yet as President, was telling US that we should not be making too much money. Pelosi says the same thing and even quotes MLK but tells a reporter to not ask her about her own $100M wealth.

Why is it justified, in the eyes of liberals, for liberal elite politicians to make millions yet not anyone else?

A little jealous are we?

Not in the least. I’m just asking a question why is it OK for one to make $1Ms and then they wag their finger telling everyone that there is a cap. Further, what exactly is that point where one has made “enough money” , who decides that, and why is it justified? I’d listen more if someone said, “look at me.... I’ve made enough. Here is the amount and why everyone should make that amount. “

I think the mistake you make is taking anything a politician says seriously.

It’s only when one can’t defend a politician’s position that question of “seriousness” comes into play. We recently saw this with AOC’s statement on climate change over the next 12 years was blown up and she said she was “not serious”.

I cannot think of a statement from a politician in the last decade that could be "defended"

Statements from politicians are the foundation of mindset for policies. Only a politico set on taking / keeping money from the American worker would make such a statement, serious or otherwise.

They call this a strawman. Find me one liberal that says that no one but politicians is allowed to make millions?
At most what you will find is that some liberal politicians want millionaires to pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes. That's a far cry of saying they should not be millionaires. Let me ask you this. Since you are obviously a conservative. If you are so against Socialism and I presume are for fiscal responsibility, why is it that you have no problems BORROWING money to GIVE tax breaks to people who already ARE millionaires?

Hmmm, let's see. Doubling tax rates on "millionaires", as AOC wants to do, would certainly make it more difficult to become or stay a millionaire. Not to mention most of those millionaires would be moving to another country, just as businesses did to avoid taxes.
-You don't think to have to accrue massive student debt makes it more difficult to become a millionaire? Or not being able to afford higher education altogether. Higher taxes could make college available to all.
-As to not being able to stay a millionaire because of higher taxes. Those higher taxes would pay for stuff that now could do the same thing. Like for instance becoming seriously ill. Again something that higher taxes might help.
-You honestly believe that MOST millionaires would leave their home country and family and friends because the taxes are raised? A bit of logical thinking by somebody who calls himself thinker should show the stupidity of that statement.

None of it by the way really engages my premise. Why don't you guys find borrowing money to give tax breaks to people who are millionaires is not a problem? But giving healthcare to all citizens is a luxury that most Republicans find silly?

Nobody on the left has ever suggested any legislation that caps income. Again it's a strawman. That quote you posted is Obama stating the obvious fact that at some point earning money doesn't make any difference anymore in quality of life and becomes a bit silly because of it.

How about some common sense. Many companies moved out of the US due to increased taxes, moving ones self out of the country for the same reason would be much, much easier.

You just described 99.9% of all our elected officials at the Fed level.

A company doesn't have family, life long friends, roots. Most people do. By the way, it's not even an academical question. Most, if not all countries in Europe have higher tax rates. They have millionaires and most stay right in the countries they were born. https://inequality.stanford.edu/sit...mer_2014/Pathways_Summer_2014_YoungVarner.pdf This study couldn't find evidence of millionaires moving WITHIN the US as taxes were raised. And we are talking about moving countries altogether. Mapping the Global Migration of Millionaires
At it's highest 6 percent leave and that's Russia all the others go from 0 to at it's highest 2 percent. Not exactly an exodus. Neither by the way, does that 6 percent is stated to have necessarily anything to do with taxes.

but an increase in the deficit. So yes borrow. So please answer the question?
Tax breaks don't require funding.

Spending requires funding.

Socialism, Communism, and Fascism have all been tried, and none of them make the poor richer than Capitalism.

I take the liberals point as not so much about limiting what people earn but rather more about what the well-to-do should give back. Not that this feeling of generosity is limited to liberals, it's just that in the liberal view a tremendous portion of these good things must come through government.

Um dumbass, we didn't borrow to give tax cuts. The government let people keep more of there money and everyone got a tax cut that pays taxes. Can't you come up with a better talking point?

“At a certain point, you’ve made enough money”

Who made that quote?

You made it up; right?

the title of your thread is a QUOTE yet you provide no link to backup your lame claim.

Hopefully the mods can close the thread ASAP
Obama said it, he also told business owners. You didn't build that.

It's not generosity when you give away other people's money.

The reason it must come through government is so that bureaucrats and cronies can get their “share.” Then, when there is little or none leftover for the poor that actually need it, it’s time to repeat the process of telling the wealthy that they don’t pay their “fair share”.

And this is why cons are deranged.

Liberals do NOT demonize wealth.

We are NOT communist socialists who thinks everyone should be paid the same.

We believe in capitalism....slightly FETTERED capitalism.

We have no problem with some people earning (being paid) more than others. We just think that SOME people have TOO MUCH of the happy cabbage while OTHER PEOPLE don't have enough.

so instead of a system with EXTREME WEALTH and EXTREME POVERTY we would like to adjust the system such that we still have very wealthy people but NOBODY lives in poverty.

It would seem to me that if even the lowest paid worker earned enough to pay his rent, buy food, keep his kids in clean clothes and get a decent education that the whole country would be better off.

Yeah they demonize .
