we just got back from outer banks......6.5 hours in the car ...2.5 on the ferry....

Why what do you do? I am not in no hurry till 9 am monday.

I do, uh, stuff. And some of it is out that way, though not as far as the ocean. Traffic around Raleigh will always show ya down.

However if you do the trip and it's before 1400 when you pass through Winston Salem, check out Mary's Gourmet Diner at 723 N. Trade Street for a memorable breakfast. Mary's the only cook who makes grits better than I do.

It's funny me being a Chicago guy and never had grits till I moved down here, I love them and became picky on how they are made, like with sweet tea. Lol ..you can tell real fast.

It's funnier that Mary, that restaranteur I just mentioned, is from Chicago too.

I grew up on grits by virtue of my Mom being from Mississippi.

I got bored but i will book Mark this thread and check out Mary's when I go out that way

I always share good food resources.

Also if you get to Mary's check out the Art-o-Mat machine to your left as you go in the door. Great use of an old cigarette machine. Winston Salem, you know, doing their penance.

And further, if you don't know Old Salem it's a fascinating living history tour. Old Moravian community comes to life. And cookies.
