When I try to post by selecting the quote someboudy option, it tells me that I can't post a link. Even though Im not putting a link in my post. Am I doing something wrong?

Is a link included in the quote? That might be it.

Whenever I thank someone then go to reply in that thread, it ends up quoting the person I thanked even though I didn't quote them.

Just post 3 more times without quoting and you'll be at the point where you can link.
