Assessment of the first consensus prediction on climate change

Ah, a fringe rightwing whackadoodle opinion piece, with no compelling or even substantive support, merely more assertion and delusional rambling,...well that ought to clear things up.

which specific parts of that piece are you saying are false? it seems to be a fairly accurate time line of the events that took place.

Therein lies the problem... he's used to looking at distorted bullcrap... truth doesn't fit in.

Please support this assertion with compelling citation and reference
Gergis et al.

"This seems to suggest that Gergis's declaration that the correlations were based on detrended data was false and that she and her co-authors had indeed fallen foul of the circular argument noted above. The finding of unprecedented warmth reported in the Gergis paper appears as though it is a function of the methodology used rather than of the underlying data."

In other words they screwed up on their math.....

- Bishop Hill blog - Another Hockey Stick*broken

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.....you are too funny, walleyed.....your idea of a "compelling citation and reference" to back up your ridiculous crackpot assertion that climate scientists "never seem to be able to do [mathematics] correctly", is a link to some idiotic pseudo-science article by some unknown nutjob denier cultist on a denier cult blog.....LOLOLOLOL.....you poor clueless retard.....

In other words, someone screwed up your head.....maybe your parents, or your genetics, or oil corp propagandists, or some combo of those....who knows.....you're just flat out too bamboozled and confused to know which end is up....

You're typical of the AGW sheep. All science that says what you believe to be true is good, all science that doesn't is junk.

Idiot.

Vostock ice cores demolish the idea of any CO2 forcing

The AGW faithful will ignore your heresy.

Well, obviously, in your attempts at massive information overload, you failed to even read the piece. Here, I'll help.. here's one pretty alarming part:

Now begins the fun. Warwick Hughes, an Australian scientist, wondered where that “+/–” came from, so he politely wrote Phil Jones in early 2005, asking for the original data. Jones’s response to a fellow scientist attempting to replicate his work was, “We have 25 years or so invested in the work. Why should I make the data available to you, when your aim is to try and find something wrong with it?”

There's your beloved climatologist... scared to even have his data looked at because someone might question it.

What a fucking joke..

Jones is worse than a joke. his original UHI paper was a fraud, and he knew it at least after the fact, yet he continued to cite it.

AGW is a cult because they still support East Anglia Data Distortion Center even after they were caught red-handed altering and destroying data.

AGW: It just ain't science

Got compelling supporting science sources for any of these assertions?

Got emails from Phil Jones, does that count or is he no longer a "Scientist" (LOLz @ Phil Jones and scientist in the same sentence)

I suggest you ask Phil Jones. When presented with claims for raw data under FOIA he countered with the claim that he had lost all of it.

I suggest you figure out what is involved and stop making groudless accusation!

did you actually follow that story at the time? have you investigated both sides of the story? what do you think of the climategate emails that strongly suggest that FOI was being ignored? or worse, purposefully thwarted?

I did follow it and it's not hard to understand why a scientist wouldn't want to be bothered by the nonsense the Denialistas have done, when they are the ones who stole the emails. It interrupts a scientist's work and they don't want to be bothered by the nonsense. The Denialistas are always trying to make something out of nothing, because they have nothing.

Phil Jones' and M. Mann's interest was in Paleoclimatology and that's what the emails involved. If you are trying to reconstruct the temperatures of the past 1000 years, you have to use proxies and some of those proxies aren't very good. One of the emails involved tree ring proxies and tree rings only respond well to temperature if they are collected at altitudes where temperature stresses growth. Otherwise, they respond more to changes in precipitation.

Of course, none of that reality makes a difference to people trying to make something out of nothing.

You see, there are actually people who will open their eyes, see all that ice melting and realize it takes heat to melt ice and there are others who know it's happening, don't care and will lie it or anything else to support their agenda. The Denialistas will play a game that global warming isn't even happening and if they are presented with too much evidence, will switch to you can't prove it's caused by human activity. In reality, most know it's happening and caused by human activity, but will pretend it isn't. They never have considered the price of doing nothing may be many times more than the price of solving the problem or that at some point it may no longer be possible to stop global warming, because the forcing caused by positive feedbacks exceeds man's ability to stop it.

Never heard of Pascal's wager, have ya?

That one isn't about science, either....Guess what it's about?

If you think Jones is worse than a joke, let's play Paleoclimatology 001 and you tell us how to construct the climate of the past 1000 years!

Too bad, even your stolen e-mails do not support your assertions.

I'm here to discuss climate science and not how the existence of God is going to protect stupid people intentionally walking into harms way from harm.

The evidence supports we can melt GIS and WAIS in a very short period of time. Ice will flow to the oceans if the buttress dams slowing it's motion are removed and once in the ocean, the ice will melt.

You invoked Pascal's wager, Scooter, not me.

You want to talk about science, don't use arguments of the religious to rationalize their blind faith....Otherwise, all you're doing is ignoring science in order to rationalize your blind faith in the "experts".

But then again, the bulk of the warmist scaremonger augmentation tactics resort to that avenue....Nothing new under the sun here.

Get back in your bed on Kelly's Heros where you belong!

I simply pointed out the consequences of inaction can easily be much more than action, so remember it when you are paying for it and hope the world comes to it's senses while it still has an opportunity to avoid those consequences!

What you did was invoke a variation on Pascal's wager to try and worm your lame-assed scarmongering past people you believe to be rubes....And you failed.

Now go spread your warmist doomsayer negative waves over at Daily Kooks or HuffyPuffy.

"Alaska is going rogue on climate change.

Defiant as ever, the state that gave rise to Sarah Palin is bucking the mainstream yet again: While global temperatures surge hotter and the ice-cap crumbles, the nation's icebox is getting even icier.

That may not be news to Alaskans coping with another round of 50-below during the coldest winter in two decades, or to the mariners locked out of the Bering Sea this spring by record ice growth.

Then again, it might. The 49th state has long been labeled one of the fastest-warming spots on the planet. But that's so 20th Century.

In the first decade since 2000, the 49th state cooled 2.4 degrees Fahrenheit.

Widespread warming

That's a "large value for a decade," the Alaska Climate Research Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks said in "The First Decade of the New Century: A Cooling Trend for Most of Alaska."

The cooling is widespread -- holding true for 19 of the 20 National Weather Service stations sprinkled from one corner of Alaska to the other, the paper notes. It's most significant in Western Alaska, where King Salmon on the Alaska Peninsula saw temperatures drop most sharply, a significant 4.5 degrees for the decade, the report says.

The new nippiness began with a vengeance in 2005, after more than a century that saw temperatures generally veer warmer in Alaska, the report says. With lots of ice to lose, the state had heated up about twice as fast as the rest of the planet, in line with rising global greenhouse gas emissions, note the Alaska Climate Center researchers, Gerd Wendler, L. Chen and Blake Moore. After a "sudden temperature increase" in Alaska starting in 1977, the warmest decade on record occurred in the 1980s, followed by another jump in the 1990s, they note. The third warmest decade was the 1920s, by the way."

The probability variation isn't Pascal's wager, so maybe you should choose your words more carefully.

Now, since you want to discuss the economics, did the economy suffer severe hardship based on increased costs when we stopped using whale oil to kerosene and kerosene to electricity? What makes you think stopping an industry from keep us in the dark ages can't be profitable?

Have you seen evidence that PDOs don't change or that Alaska is the whole world?

Talk about not adding anything of value.
