i think this is a great way for us to improve as a nation and stop being so dependent on foreign sources of fuel. Plus, everytime a president has challenged Americans, they've risen to the call.

Good article. I happen to know there is a significant effort in fuel cell efficiency research up here in my neck of the woods; mostly driven by military requirements, but hopefully will transition to the civilian sector.

I like it; is anyone keeping track of our party platform?

Works for me. Freeing the US from dependency on foriegn sources of energy would certainly go a long way in our foriegn relations efforts, but would also help in our dealings with global environmental issues.

what's our policy on the environment?

i'm for eliminating some of the nonsense laws that are around (i like spotted owls but don't think they should have precedance over business and people)
while strengthening laws that make sense (polluting companies should be footing the full bill for their misdeeds, not taxpayers)

The environment can be tricky. No question that any business or corporation that deliberately and knowingly pollutes should bear the full cost of cleanup and restitution. As for protecting endagered species and the like, I would think that one would have to consider the impact on the environment on the loss of that species. Does the loss of two dozen snail darters mean the collapse of the eco-system? Probably not. Too bad mosquitoes aren't endangered species.

I was reading about reformulated gasoline; by about 2019, in a some areas of the country, the exhaust cars put out will be cleaner than the air they injest. :)

It would be cool if cars generated a cleaner atmosphere through the use of fossil fuels. Maybe we could get power boats to do the same on the nation's waterways. Of course, it doesn't necessarily have to be through the use of fossils fuels either.
