As the Frankenstorm Arrives Romney/ Ryan Go Silent on Their Plan to Cut FEMA + relief

Romney should stick to it. He's not saying end emergency relief, he's saying put it into more responsible hands, the States.

What if that particular state gets devastated by something, and can't help itself??? Should we just hope all the other states are generous enough to bail them out? Or....go ahead and put into place ahead of time a structure to respond to it when it does?

I pick preparation over just plain hoping.

No, you pick government dependency over self reliance. That has never been our countries values.

what if a state goes spend happy, puts up lots of expensive buildings, they fall down and wnat the government to pay out? would u do it knowing your taxes would go up because a state was stupid?

wht is the payout? what are the laws? how will they be misused? DO ypu honestly think the US Government has an endless amount of money?

You're right. Rather than attempt to form an efficient government structure to maintain civility and public safety, lets just say fuck it, wing it, and hope it all works itself out since there is a chance that an organization could overspend or have fraud occur (which never happens in the private sector).

Its so hard sometimes to get people to understand that there are crucial roles of the government: Military, police, fire, roads. And those MUST be funded adequately, and attract good qualified people. Yes, even if it means we have to pay our precious, sacred, blessed by God tax dollar on it.

Yes, at the STATE and LOCAL level. Not the Federal level.

What happens when a city or state gets overwhelmed with the disaster? Who is obligated to help? What if, say, Florida is hammered, but so is Georgia and SC and Alabama??? Why should those residents pay to help Florida when Oregon and NY dont have to?

Or....should all 50 states pitch in ahead of time, then, when your state is that 1 state that gets hammered and overwhelmed, you KNOW there is assistance there rather than hoping??

Nah, fuck it, lets just wing it and see what happens.

ALSO........in these disasters, FEMA compensates the local cops/firemen who work huge overtime. Without FEMA, they wouldnt get paid. Which means legally, they wouldn't be able to force them to work the overtime. Unless....the local govt spent deficit money, or raised taxes, or used credit. All bad right?

Right wingers.....shouldn't we tell the Northeast to piss off, you're on your own?

it is part of the Ryan budget which Romney has endorsed as his own.

We've had storms forever, FEMA has only been around since 1978, what ever did we do without it. Can you say we survived just fine. BTW how many times are you commiescrats going to post this shit?

The federal government has been providing disaster relief since 1803.

Not everyone is self reliant. Not everyone can be. So you say individualism will be better than teamwork?

Our "country's" (thats singular ownership, "countries" would be plural ownership) history is full of times we fought to have a united effort. The Civil War? "United" States??? I mean heck, why even have a military? Lets disband it, then let each simply fund it's National Guard better, and hope all 50 can work together in a war without preplanning like today's does.

Or even better....lets apply that logic to sports. All 11 football players just show up, and be responsible for your man and your block. Forget uniting as a team and working together and teamwork and all that mess. Just all show up on gameday, and if each person is responsible for one other opponent, then heck, it'll work!!!

This is just sad that people think like some here are portraying. 300,000,000 people working solely as individuals will NEVER be better than uniting as a community, city, state, country, with pre-existing structures, plans, personnel.

And they did very well without a full time giant bureauacracy that cost billions to maintain, that's money that could be used for direct aid.

Now all your doing is demonstrating your ignorance on the constitution. Common defense is mandaited by the constitution, storm response is not. There are political subdivisions for a reason, local governments are best suited to handle local matters, the feds should be the last responder in a local disaster, not the first.
