All around, I see my favorite chain restaurants and once popular sole proprietorship restaurants closing its doors. It's due to the Millennials and their preference for fast, casual dining and home cooking. Now, I know these people work hard and long hours, so how is it that they cannot afford to treat themselves to a longer, better, more formal or buffet dining experience? These types of restaurants are more expensive than fast or fast-casual foods and one usually leaves a tip, but these places aren't exactly budget busters. If the US had more than 3% annual GDP growth during the Obama years, then we may not be in this mess now. These restaurants didn't see it coming. This is a trend in the USA, not so much the wealthier other nations.

It seems that it is important to vote for the right POTUS and politicians. Obama may have ruined it for one generation as they could not get decent jobs. Once the Millennials graduated, they ended up with high college loans and high taxes in order to support the poor immigrants. The lesson? Never vote for a socialist POTUS or politician again. Let the Canadians eat the fast-casual and fast foods. Now, I'm not against immigration. To the contrary, I am for it. Immigration is one of the keys to real GDP growth, but we can't just let anybody in like criminals and terrorists. Moderation is key and that means border control and immigration management. These restaurants need workers and people who will pick their foods and people who are willing to make better of themselves -- the working poor. These are the ideas that the USA was founded upon. Capitalism works.

I can't even wrap my head around the concept of "favorite chain restaurant". It's like "favorite form of cancer" or "most desired method of falling down".

Btw, care to essplain to the class what 'chain restaurants' have to do with the Politics forum?

You are barking up the wrong tree

Wages have been stagnant for decades. Young people are working for low wages and carry high debt
If they choose to compensate by eating at home, I applaud them

I never get Montezumas revenge when I cook myself! Cost and cleanlyness is why I do my own cooking! The cost of eating out has also sky rocketed! I can eat at home and with what I saved just for myslef allows me to eat and walk a golf course for the same money! Add in wife and kids I can play a round with a cart at an expensive golf course! The cost of eating out puts my boat on the lake for a day!

Restaurant biz is super competitive . Those chain shops that closed where mostly overpriced with sub par food .

No. It has something to do with George Soros and gay illegal Mexican Muslims. I just know these things.

Where is there not a Sizzlers? I know of half a dozen right off.
Home cooking and millennials so not belong in the same sentence. Millennials rely on door dash and grub hub. That's the future.

You know, a lot of the places I like to eat in Amarillo (usually mom and pop type places), all are still going strong and the owners are making good money.

If you are in Amarillo and want some of the best soul food around? Shi-Lee's Barbecue is the place to go. Not only do they feed you good, the prices aren't too bad.

If you want Mexican food and tacos? Go to El Giro. Not only do they make damn near everything on site, they also have some of the best hot sauces (also homemade) that I've ever had.

As far as chain restaurants? The only ones I eat at anymore is McAllister's Deli, and Schlotzsky's.

What fucking horseshit, Bode.

My 14 y.o. son has a job at a restaurant that is 2 blocks from my house. He's getting 10.75/hour, + tips, and she'd work him 40 hours a week if she could. In other words, he gets as many hours as he wants. I could go get a job there tomorrow.

10.75x20x4.3 = $924.50 gross monthly earned income per montyh for a 14 y.o. kid. Plus tips of about $300 per month.

He can pay me $200 per month, save 300 per month and still have more money than he knows what to do with.

There used to be more, though, and they were a lot more swanky. We had one in Pendleton for years but they closed up shop around 2000 I think. Adieu!!!

Ah! Schlotzsky's! Love that place.

The only one where I live closed five years ago.

Damn you Bill Ayers!

Chain restaurants are an example that we are mostly familiar with. I also mentioned sole proprietorships which mainly only locals know of. These are places we frequent in our neighborhoods, towns or cities we live in and bring visitors to. It seemed like what's happening to these places is based on Millennials being forced to go to fast-casual, fast foods or stay-at-home cooking. Also, these restaurants show how they are tied directly to the economy. They aren't places where we find high wages and need a population of immigrants to continue thriving, i.e. can't pay higher wages like those of high-end expensive restaurants with special equipment and specialty cooks and staff.

Sucks to be you. Amarillo has 2 of them! At least once a month, I go to Schlotzsky's to get their loaded baked potato soup and whichever sandwich sounds good that day.
