our hood watch are the dogs......you can track a person here by the dogs barking.....plus there are no leash laws...so you have houses with dogs in the yard who are very territorial

all our dogs are babies till someone fucks with ya...then they turn into the watch dogs they are....
its that way up and down the creek

Neighborhood watch is fine. Vigilantes are not. I wouldn't want Zimmerman on any neighborhood watch that me or my children were living in.

Yidnar if you liked in my community.

(Which is unlikely because we don't allow mobile homes)

I would organize a Neighborhood Watch specifically to watch "You"!!
no need !!! i would not bother anyone !! but if some punk screwed with me i would Treyvon their ass !!

Neighborhood Watch isn't about patrolling armed. Neighborhood Watch is about observation and reporting so that proper law enforcement agencies can deal with a situation in a timely manner.

It is not against the law for someone in a NW organization to carry a firearm if they are otherwise authorized, however police briefings and NW policies are against it. At least they are in the community in which I'm a member.

...and question someone he does not recognize in the community after there have been several break ins ???

The purpose of the Neighborhood watch is to observe and report, we are not there to inject ourselves into a situation. A NW person has no business, under the guise of NW to "question" or even attempt to detain anyone. We call the authorities and they respond.

and if you believe in profiling ???

Yes.

If there are crimes being committed in the neighborhood and I observe an unknown person fitting the profile the police have provided, then report. The police will then check them out.

and if every time a neighborhood watchman saw someone he does not recognize should he call the police or question them ??

Vague ambiguous question and uses an unreasonable absolute qualifier.

I think a watch program should be an organized effort.
Carry guns? No, but have guns at the ready and 2 way radios.
No questioning. No citizen in America has to answer any question from anyone. So questioning an individual could be seen as a confrontation and automatically escalate into something it never should have been.
Profiling when done right is a useful tool. But a black guy in my neighborhood is no reason to think something is doing wrong. Profiling is using a set of facts to determine that criminal activity is most likely the reason for the facts. Like a police officer sees a clean cut young white male in the projects. There is only one reason for him being there. He is buying drugs.
No a neighborhood watchman should ever approach anyone unless absolutely necessary .How would you feel if every time you went to visit a friend you are questioned by a neighborhood watchman?
On a final note. A few years ago in a neighboring town a sheriff stopped to question a man he didn't recognize. The man refused to show ID or answer any questions. He was arrested and charges with Obstruction. When the officer explained to the judge what happened, the judge asked the officer "Who do you think you are?" He proceeded to rip the officer a new one for violating the man's right. He said the man wasn't is a car and wasn't committing any crimes and there were no reports of suspicious activity. Therefore the officer had no right to confront the man and the man wasn't compelled to answer any questions the officer asked him. The result, the city had to come off $3million.
Sorry for the long post.
