Are you a law breaker?

It all depends on "how long" I would have to wait. If it didn't change in a reasonable amount of time, then of course, I would go through it.

When I was living in Colorado, there was a light like this. I complained to the city about it, but they never fixed it. The light was run by a sensor that wasn't working. When you came off of the exit ramp from I-25, and wanted to turn right, the light would not change. Of course, there was a "no turn on red" sign there also. So, you'd either have to wait for someone in one of the two left turn lanes to get there to trigger the sensor, or you'd just have to go through the light.

It was so aggravating; I almost wanted to get pulled over for running it, so I could go to court and tell them what idiots they were.

I'll wait it out. Eventually it'll change. It's the middle of the night, where else do I have to be?

I use turn signals all the time, that makes it habit. That way I won't forget to use it when someone is behind me, or in front of me, or whatever.

I don't know, I automatically use a signal if someone is behind me. It's second nature to me at this point.

Traffic laws are in place to protect drivers. A red light is there so cars in all different directions don't slam into each other. If no one is there but you, then it nullifies the underlying intent of the light to begin with. In the least, I'd say it warrants running it.

I go through it.

This is also illegal in several states, if you can believe it. Are you a law breaker?

SEX

WTF is this the 19th century?
sheeeesh, some of those old bluebook laws are funny
but i'm sure some of them have interesting histories

I was thinking about this in the hidden camera at PP thread, so I was wondering what others thought of this hypothetical situation:

You're driving in your car in the middle of the night. You come to a red light. You can see there is no one coming for at least a mile in any direction. The light is stubbornly not changing to green. Do you wait it out or go through the red light?

The point of the question is, the intent of the law is negligible, there is no traffic to control, there is no danger in proceeding, do you follow the law anyway?
This situation actually occured to me once.

It was at about 3-4am with zero traffic. After sitting for
a few minutes I ran the light.

I also once encountered a stuck red light in the middle
of the day at an intersection with moderate traffic.
Drivers proceeded as though there was a stop sign,
without mishap.

I do not believe the law requires anyone to obey a traffic
signal which is broken.

One thing I enjoy about living in South Florida is late at night the lights turn to blinking red for the main street and blinking yellow for the side streets...Didn't get that luxury in NYC...ahh and rights on red

This reminds me of Harold and Kumar, when they try to cross the street because no one is around and then as soon as they step off the curb out of no where the cop comes up.
"NPH wouldn't do that!"

YES. From birth!

When i was 7 years old, walking home from school, an MP on base sort of arrested me for J-walking and escorted me home, several blocks, and put me in to my mom's custody!

he scared the pajesus out of me and i never crossed a road in the middle of it again, though!!!!

My realtor here in Maine became our friend....after showing us a kazillion homes that just weren't right, we got to know him fairly well...

and on different properties, there was always something that we felt needed changing....

and we would ask, is it against the law in maine to do X? and his answer was always something like, ''Nothing is against the law in maine....IF you don't get caught!'' hahahaha! :D

yes, if i knew the road, was the middle of the night, with no one around, if i hadn't been drinking, and checked and double checked that no traffic was coming and no coppers around, and also was in a hurry for some reason, i would run the red light.

but you'd never catch me dead, littering! :D

EXCEPT...i participated in the toilet papering of trees in the neighborhood, on mischief night when i was a teen! though mom found out and i was grounded for it. :(

AND I did use my older sister's driver's license to get in to bars before i was 18, and legal back then!

i got another 10 examples or so....but most of this was when young!

Damn, i really am rebellious!!!! WHO would have thunk it? hahahaha!

care
