Are we too far gone?

I think we are. This country is on a downward slide, and there is nothing that can be done to stop it.

The division is so bad now, I don't think we will ever come together again. Perhaps we need to stop worrying about changing the country and start managing the fall.

We are nearly to the point of civil war. All it will take is the right catalyst to start.

This country is not like it was 10 years ago. Obama's pledge to radically transform the country did indeed happen, perhaps not in the way he envisioned, but we are changed.

We are vicious, divided, hate filled people. I just think this country is done. Her best days gone.

They say history repeats itself, and most empires don't last. I think our empire has run its course. It's only a matter if time before we destroy ourselves from within, or another country invades and takes us over.

No, we're not.
I think we are. Politically, we're pretty much the already. The people are not quite ready to be violent, but can't you feel it? Surely you can.

The rhetoric is so bad now, people are starting to lose patience with opposing viewpoint and ideology.

Tick tick tick
Additionally, we're in a race to the bottom, lowering our standards at every opportunity if we perceive political advantage.

Who knows what could turn this around.

For starters, we have one of the worst education systems in the industrialized world.

Not even close, in another few presidential cycles the aging RWNJs will be mostly gone and things will level out.

Rubbish.

The Republic will continue to exist AS a republic long after your great-great-great-grandchildren have lived-out their lives.

Other than foreign provocateur-trolls and wing-nuts on both sides, the vast majority of Americans are Union Men, through-and-through.

Geez , put a skirt on!

If you think NOW Is bad then you are just ignorant about history .

If anything we are so spoiled nowadays that we have to look for stupid shit to be outraged about .

Really, what are you worried about ?

No we're not near Civil War, not even a quarter of the indicators are present for that to happen at least not in the sense of armies battling each other. Doesn't mean there's not a so called internal "cold war" going on to one degree or another mostly being fought out in the courts.

As for empires, no empires last, ever and Obama wasn't a catalyst, he was a product of a previous catalyst.

These stages of "empire" are not set in that one suddenly goes from one stage to the other they overlap until the next stage becomes prominent and there's not a set period for each one, each stage can last decades or centuries.

1. The age of outburst (or pioneers).
2. The age of conquests.
3. The age of commerce.
4. The age of affluence.
5. The age of intellect.
6. The age of decadence.
7. The age of decline and collapse.

Eventually things will get bad enough that liberals will turn to conservatives to fix it.

Thanks for your post number 6 Crep .

Yes but only because our high school education is garbage can level, our colleges aren't really that great anymore either, and our competitors in Europe and Asia actually take education seriously, unlike the U.S.

Hell, I think even Africa is catching up. They don't even have money for books in many cases.

So, you think attrition will be the silver lining? Once the older generation dies out, then it will be the millenials who are in their prime, and those millennials likely being left leaning will stop the infighting because everyone is on the same page?

I can actually see that being the case. Will will likely slide more toward socialism, and the few remaining Republicans will just have to suck it up until they die off, then the u.s. will be a full on socialist country.

I cant disagree with you.

All that is needed is for people of all political stripes to insist that facts and evidence be adhered to when making policy decisions.

If we had facts and evidence, we don't need policy. Policy is needed when there is a less than clear path. Nice platitude though.

For instance, illegals. The policy under Obama was tolerate them. The law says something different.

Not really. Millennials will just become more liberal on social issues (as in, we don't really give a shit what you do in your personal life). We came of age in the great recession period. No one is stingier (I should say, more paranoid about money) than us.
