aka Indians. It has been years now, they own a large part of Mi and control all the casinos in northern Mi of which they are yet as far as I know Fed Tax Free, some states have taxes on them. It seems they are buying more and more land and demanding more autonomy upon that land (their rules, not state laws).

I would think its time to get rid of the reservations and they can live among us like all US citizens.

Just my opinion, I just think it has got too carried away. Food for thought , since immigration if so at the forefront now. When a country takes control of a land , whose laws should the natives follow??

I think we are. Its time to move on.
Conquering lands is human tradition for millennia

They are still subject to state and federal jurisdiction
They can establish their local laws

Reservations belong to the tribes, why should they give them back?

No they pretty much have autonomy and also on the reservations.

How about taking the land from the blacks too? I mean, when a country takes control of the land, surely the blacks should know their place.

They keep growing and buying up land. Do you think they do not procreate?

Took them long enough, but you did not answer the question, when a people take over a land should they follow the laws of the land?

I do not want their land, blacks follow our laws. Same laws for all. Should they follow our laws and their Casinos pay federal taxes? Also should those on living on reservations not follow US laws?

Well, the natives follow "our" laws too. It just so happens that the law says they can have casinos. So....... why do you have a problem with that law?

Personally I think if people want to gamble, they should be able to gamble, but then again it was the right (remember the ones who want out of your lives) who want to be right there in your life when you want to gamble.

Its their land .... your nose doesn't belong in it, their businesses or disturbing the treaties that were already signed with them.

We could explore the concept of free Native Cities.

By law reservations are technically independent countries within and under the protection of the United States and nowhere does it say they can't expand their lands. Here is where it can get complicated, most tribal land is held under trust of the federal government therefore subject to the treaties, etc that govern such land. Land purchased outright and added to tribal lands are not subject to those treaties, etc so may not be subject to federal or state law. That would be up to the courts to decide and the courts have traditionally sided with the federal government (for the most part).

From article in OP
"The Little Traverse Bay Band, formally recognized 22 years ago, filed suit last year in Kalamazoo federal court. The tribe claims, as predecessor to Ottawa and Chippewa people living in Michigan territory prior to European settlement, that the disputed land is "Indian country" where the state is exercising "improper" authority by collecting income tax and enforcing child welfare laws."
and
"
Bransky characterized a reservation as just another layer of jurisdiction, but opposing parties counter that a tribal victory would cause major local disruption and could result in an area-wide drop in prosperity and property values.

On Native American reservations, tribes exercise sovereign authority that supersedes state and local laws. They are, in many ways, like miniature nations within the confines of U.S. states; bound only to most federal laws.

Because of tribal sovereignty, state and local laws that govern land use zoning, construction and environmental protection, among other things, wouldn't apply to the tribe or any of its members within the reservation, said Boldrey.

The tribe could impose additional taxes and fees, he said, or approve policies like that of an Oregon tribe using its sovereignty to grow marijuana."

Yup, that's the way it's set up, the state has absolutely no power or control over any tribal lands, only the federal government and their authority is limited.

What a surprise?

Another white person wants to renege on treaties the United States made with the Indians?

A good number of Native Americans on the reservations live in impoverished and deplorable conditions. Our "help" is probably the worst thing we ever gave them.
