Are we Americans....

still mad at the French?

Is it time to forgive and forget? I say not yet, but that's just me.

I never was angry with the French. I had no expectations of the gutless wonders to begin with. Perhaps I shouldn't be so harsh. The poor bastards have had their asses kicked three times in the last hundred years.

For sale: French WWII rifle. Never fired. Only dropped once.

I asked my dad, he got a purple heart at Normandy-Omaha Beach, if he might like to go there this summer. His reply, no thanks, DisneyWorld or Vegas would be better. At going on 84, have to accede to his wishes.

It's got nothing to do with the fact that they are French. It has everything to do with the fact that France all but supported and advocated for Saddam Hussein, even though they are supposed to be our allies (remember NATO?).

Nutella crepes and crepes suzette...that's the extent of my need for the French.:D

Oh, and a sexy French woman to whispr in my ear lol.

the statue of liberty in the harbor of new york is a lasting symbol of our brotherhood with the french. like any family, there are disagreements like the one we are in now. on the whole, I expect us to get past it at some point and move forward altho I can't say whether we will reach the same point of alliance we have enjoyed in the past. Yes, we saved them a couple times, but they also contributed greatly in our own fight for liberty if you recall.

Lets look at this way. My brother gets in a fight and is loosing. I help him, and we win. Later, he gets in a fight the with the same person, I help him, we win again. The bully is now lifting weights and toughening up to fight us again, so I stop the threat ahead of time, and my brother gets angry and denounces our brotherhood. Doesn't sound a like a functional family, let alone a family at all.

I hope you liked my slightly modified analogy!

The stance that France is taking in the world today, i don't know why we arent considering them on the Terrorist Harboring Nations list. They have given nuclear power to Saddam's Iraq. They allowed Algeria to turn into a terrorist state. They have ignored US sanctions on Syria (as has most of the EU). They continually defy everything America says about anything.

Why are we not at war with France? We could win very easily. Just stroll up with a few humvees and they'll wave the flags.

All joking aside, the reason i feel that we can't openly attack (politically or physically) ANY European nation is because of their EU. They would battle us with politics on the global front. It has worked so far. Their lies are perceived as truth in the eyes of the media and then relayed to the world.

I think a WW3 is inevitable. I just wonder who will it be against. Every WW that had germany on 1 side and America on the other has turned out in our favor. But add most of the EU ( minus Brittain unless the socialists seize her), China, Iran, NK, Syria and some minor countries in the ME vs US, Canada (Cause if they attacked us they'd be dumb), Japan, and a few other small nations. ITs worrysome.

If a guy like Kerry gets in office, then we will have already lost. For they will make us bow at their alter and will run our government like puppets. When in history has the biggest government and best country ever had to be dictataed to by the smaller countries? I can't ever remember a time.

I never said it wasn't dysfunctional :) perhaps your brother france sees you as being the bully now (right or wrong, history will show). just trying to offer different perspectives to think about...

So we've been a brother that has been there for them many times in the past to fight off a bigger bully and now they see us as the bully? I don't think your analogy works in that respect.

I liked it. Its alot more than a great many ADULTS on this board are ever capable of seeing.

You my dear, rock!!!

I went to Paris for spring break and thought that it was a wonderful city full of dumb people.
I enjoyed the art and architecture, but the socialists have had an obviously negative effect on the country. There is graffiti everywhere (freedom of speech taken to the extreme) and traffic is ALWAYS backed up, not because people are heading to their jobs, but because there are multible strikes being held in the streets each day. And of course, their government does whatever the people want, regardless of if it's the best for the country.

I prefer to get angry and write my local congressman, the French are garbage that love nothing but their own asses. It is sick, and their lack of convictions is beyond disturbing.

I hope one of the strikes turns violent and they have another revolution that destroys the country; maybe when they rebuild they will actually think.

So the French revolt, in a matter of hours, white flags would fill the sky, and American soldiers would be there for the umm...well, I lost count.... :D

I just to hope to god your not an American.

Perhaps you should review history yourself. Why did we have to goto Saddam in the Middle East? Because the Shah of Iran, our ony Ally over there was removed from power with no help from Us. Who took over? Why the Father of the Modern Anti-American Terrorist Movement, Aayatollah Kuhmmene(sp?). How was this allowed to happen? Why Jimmy Carter simply sat on his ass because he felt peace could be achieved through not doing anything at all and hoping the threat goes away.

Subsequently we went to Saddam to fight Iran. Communism being the main enemy, we sided with the lesser of 2 evils. We have since rectified the problem if you havent noticed. It only took 13 years after our intial try but we finally took him out.

We can review every messed up deal of the last century and scrutinize every president that made said deal but we still end up back where we are today. So i'm focusing on the present and in the Present, Bush is fighting the terrorists where they live instead of arresting a few of them after they've killed thousands of us.
