Are there any right wingers out there who

It was a shame that our government had to make up some story about Toyota and run them in front of congress to get dressed down on a bogus recall during that exact same period. Ever wonder why? :eusa_whistle:

Because our government is not set up to do that.

GM and Chrysler should have gone into Bankruptcy proceedings like any other company does.
That's what the law is for. They wouldn't have shut down and put people out of work. That's a leftist myth.

But no, this President decided the law doesn't matter -- there are unions to pay off!

Shareholders and taxpayers get a raw deal.

Are there any right wingers out there who actually think the auto bail out was a bad idea. Or better yet, are there any right wingers out there who actually are saying it didnt work?

If so, please explain. I dont see how anyone could think this but please, go ahead.

Left wingers, please join me with thanking the president on making another good call. Thank you sir for not allowing this country to go down the path of another great depression. Wheh, thank God someone not like Bush won and will win again in 2012.

Of course it was a bad idea.
It undermined the rule of law.
It perpetuated inefficient industries
It expanded government power beyond anything the Constitution authorized.

Why would anyone think it was good?

Because it saved the jobs of working people...

Not that you know any of those... I doubt you ever get out of the trailer park.

You misspelled "union".
Actually it didnt. It saved a few union jobs at the expense of a bunch of jobs that went uncreated. Had those companies been allowed to bankrupt like anyone else they would have emerged leaner and more efficient. The workers laid off would find work elsewhere, possibly making parts for Toyota, VW, Mercedes, Nissan, or BMW, all American car companies that can produce products at a profit. Profit, Joe. Something you benefit from every day, even if you hate it.

Don't know about 'right-wingers', but from the point of view of anyone worried about the growth of corporatism, the bailouts were a horrible idea.

So what? They're not Democrat special interest groups.

Good idea or not you're heaping your praise on the wrong person. The bailouts were Bushes idea.

As far as it being good or bad haven't you gotten the answer in the last 3 years?

Christ this diversion shit is getting old.

Your right the car bailouts were part of the Bush plan for bailouts.

The funny thing is the right has been claiming they were all Obamas fault and a horrible idea.

Right up until they worked and there was NO denying it without looking like a fucking idiot.

NOW the right seems to remember that it was started under Bush.

They rail against the bailouts stiill and like to pretend that was Obamas idea.

You see once Bush FUCKED EVERYTHING TO HELL!

He had to do the ONLY sensable thing that could be done.

He resorted to sound fiscal policy to correct the dumb assed conservative policies that nearly distroyed the world economy.

Remember the phrase "were all Kensyians now"

Do you know what that meant?

It meant the republican leadership had to resort to a Kensyian fix to the HELL the repbulican conservative ideas that fucked everything up.

So you disgruntled brained cons screamed about it and blamed Obama for a couple of years while infact it was Bush doing the ONLY sane thing left to do or watch our country and world collapse into economic chaos.

Thank a brother would you.

You know YOUR current president who saw fit to continue the ONLY sane thing Bush had ever done.

Thank you my president.

President Obama did the right thing

Realize that for the right the success of GM is in of itself ‘bad.’ It violates conservative economic dogma where government and business must never mix; indeed, for the right, the success of GM is ‘worse’ than the company going out of business, because the ancient free market ‘force’ of the ‘invisible hand’ was interfered with – it’s economic blasphemy.

And the core motive of conservative opposition to the bail out is purely partisan, they resent the president’s success, and if a republican president had done the same thing, republicans would consider the bail out wonderful.

Good deal. My Family owns a Mustang and Sport Trac...Great vehicles.
Bought my last truck in 2008 a Ford Ranger three guesses why I went with Ford,

I can dig it and remain a FORD man.
icon14.gif

My 16k 2012 Ford Focus gets 38 mpg, why do I need a Government Motors 40k hybrid that gets 45mpg ....lol... at 4.00 a gallon it will take me 384 years to make up the difference ..lol...

Besides, I lost 8k in Gm stock when the went belly up, I got no bailout for that.

Chrysler was bailed out once before.....

Chrysler and GM should have been left alone and failed... all the workers and suppliers would have gone to Ford, who make better products and has better management anyways....

So yes, using my tax money for auto bailouts was stupid.

Agreed...they should have filed for protection/restructuring...but the Unions had to have thier prize courtesy of Obama, at the expense of the taxpayers and shareholders.

It's dispicable.

Neither the bondholders or the taxpayer will ever realize recouping.

And therin lies the sickness of the left...and the damage they are doing.

The real question is, why don't we do what the Japanese and Germans do, which is treat our car companies as an extention of our national pride and strength. Volkswagon and Nissan are in hip deep with their respective governments.
Because our government is not set up to do that.

And why not?

Oh, wait, I know.

"The Founding Fathers, people so noble that they shit marble, (when they weren't beating their slaves, that is) never conceived of such a notion, therefore we should never, ever do it. I just loves me some Founding Fathers, and won't entertain any new ideas in the 240 years since them!"

A look at companies supported by the government reveals a record of gross mismanagement and failure, i why.

So, I don't savor getting mixed up in your left-right pissing match, but this sounds like you're taking a stand for corporatism. Is that really where you want to be?

So you're whining because you gambled on a company whose cars you wouldn't buy (not that I ever thought you had 8K to throw around on a stock bet) because the priority was keeping the company in business...

The GM stock was the ex-wife's idea, i had 8k in Ford too, but sold it for 36k a few years ago ..... so still ahead of the game..... :)

Why would you think I did not have 8k to throw around? Did you think I was one of those Libs on Welfare or my 2012 Ford cost more than my House or something

If someone has to explain it to you then maybe you had better take some finance, accounting, and economic classes. But then again socialism and government control is your game? Another great depression? Oh my, so stuffing union coffers at the expense of the tax payers, those unlike yourself that pay taxes, and screwing vendors, a term used to describe those that supply companies with goods and services, is ok by you, because they weren't union, and we must keep those union voters in camp?
