Ford?

For a moment I was going to take you seriously.

But seriously

Republicans are not for smaller government. Conservatives are.

Please don't confuse the Two.
You didn't even watch the video, how can I take your notion that "conservative" republican presidents over history have shrunk the size of government seriously.

You are just intellectually lazy, though I would expect no less from a "conservative".

Lars, I can't speak for what Republicans are and are not for, since I'm not one.

However, Conservatives are for Limiting the things that the Government is allowed to be involved in. Now, within the limits of what the Government is allowed to be involved in, the Government's power should be very broad under this philosophy; and outside of those limits the Government's power should be non-existant. The obvious question then becomes, where those limits are set.

He doesn't have to, he already knows Reagan isn't a conservative and the republican party isn't conservative.

Maybe you need educated on those things, don't get mad at those of us who don't.

What do I need to get educated on? For someone who claims not to be a republican, or to support the Republican Party regularly, you get pretty po'ed when I point out the fact that the GOP has grown the scope of the state almost every time they have achieved electoral success.

No. Republicans are for global fascist dictatorship, wars, and surveillance.

Conservatives claim to be for smaller government because they like economic freedom, but when it comes to social issues, they want to control every aspect of your lives.

But do they really favor economic freedom? There are plenty of examples to prove that that's false.

Well, that didn't take long for you to descend into the "I'm liberal and therefore oh so much smarter than stupid conservatives" idiocy.

Where did I say I was a "liberal"? At least in the conventional modern sense?

Maybe you can answer my question. Do you support smaller government, and if so, why do you vote republican if you in fact do?

Yes, and mainly because they are the lesser of two evils. You think I enjoyed pulling the lever for McCain? Of course not, but there was no way I was voting for Obama/Biden.

No. Well, it depends. As with both parties it depends on whether or not they support the issue. Take the Patriot Act and the Department of Homeland Security for example. Both are hugely unnecessary growths of government, but you'd be hard pressed to find a Republican/Conservative that doesn't support them.

Whatever republicans are ready for it has to be better than the monstrosity democrats have managed to create in a couple of years.

Lars there is a difference between the republican party over the last several years and conservatives. The party did not espouse conservative values.

Just look at my avatar ;).

So you admit to knowingly supporting a policy of more government? In a democracy, voters are just as culpable as those they vote for for the growth of government. If you wanted less government, you would vote Libertarian or Constitution Party. You are just voting for the slower growth of government. It is really equivalent to opposing the democrat policy of cutting off four fingers by supporting the republican policy cutting off two fingers, and when the republicans get in power, they in fact cave and support cutting off four.

Lars:

I Really did TRY and watch your video, but it's the pits dude. I only got as far as Lincoln because a change of $63.6M from $45M in domestic spending IS NOT 141%. It's a 41% increase.. Can't waste time on mathematically illiterate number throwing..

So I don't know what you're selling, but fix it and try again..

As far as REPs being FOR smaller govt, -- NO -- but they are better than undeclared socialism. And IF there were alternatives and not a 2 party monopoly, I'd be listening. But even the Libertarians are beset with rigormortus of the principle..
