In order for your math to work, the person would have to purchase those 200 products each and every hour they work to fall behind by $17.50 per hour.
If this person buys all 200 products once a week (unlikely), it will cost them $20.00 more but with a 40 hour work, they will earn $100.00 so they're ahead by $80.00.
