After all the market shenanigans and financial collapses, a thinking person must come to the conclusion that most are clueless when it comes to economics. When corporations rule based solely on the bottom line and individuals work based on how much they can acquire, the planet and life is in jeopardy. Large corporations are both a blessing and a curse, they can provide jobs and a standard of living greater than most occupations for the employees at the top or in upper management levels, as we used to call it. They can also be predatory agencies, that lower wages, outsource, and hold communities and workers hostage to low pay and insecurity. Consider, study, Microsoft or Wal-Mart as examples.

I marvel at those who think free market corporatism is the way to nirvana. Enron, AIG, Saving and Loan collapse, bank failure, bad real estate investments, should tell all except those driven by formula that something is wrong and the system needs work. I used to think conservative corporate backed think tanks were a threat to democracy - I still do, but I will add corporatism as a threat to our planet as well. What happened to the good life. This piece is excellent, but boy, what a job it would entail, a change of head and heart and economy.

"It has indeed been a trying hour for the Republic; but I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working on the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands, and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war." Abraham Lincoln in a letter to William F. Elkins, November 21, 1864.

Which economic theory do you suggest as a "way to nirvana " ?

None, or if forced to answer, a blend dependent on the times and a consideration for all and the future of all. Did you watch the video, fascinating and the end offers a way.

"It is not enough to ask, ‘Will my act harm other people?’ Even if the answer is No, my act may still be wrong, because of its effects on other people. I should ask, ‘Will my act be one of a set of acts that will together harm other people?’ The answer may be Yes. And the harm to others may be great." Derek Parfit

Some corporationss are, or we let them be anyway.
Gov always has the ability to take back power if they choose to.

Government didn't tell the private bankers that they could give themselves $2 trillion dollars but they did, without asking.

So if private bankers can do that, why did they bother asking for the additional $750 billion???

And when our government asked the Feds who they gave the $2 trillion to, Paulson told them to fuck off.

If we get too close, they'll distract us with something like a war or catastophy.

Or, they'll start making things better so we forget and forgive.

Like when they dropped gas prices a month before the election.

Or like they tried to start a war in Georgia with Russia. That would make McCain look good??? That's why Cheney wants another 9-11.

Are you actually claiming that the parts of society that own the media manipulate public opinion for their own benefit?

You must be a conspiracy theorist.

All I know is that we are showing the tea baggers that the Fed spent 2 trillion and we haven't heard a peep out of those little bitches.

$100,000
$1,000,000 is 1 million.
1000,000,000 is a billion, correct?
$1000,000,000,000 IS A TRILLION? 1000 BILLIONS? And the bankers gave the bankers 2 trillion?

And no tea bag protests? Nothing from Fox? How about MSNBC?

And if they talk about it, they'll talk about it one day and let the story die. So Willow and Allie can say they are liberal media's.

But they won't talk about it day after day until something is done.

Because they own the media now too.

If it was liberal, it would not be working for them like it does.

Are corporations more powerful than government?

That's like asking if Tessio and Clemenza are more powerful that Don Vito.

Of course they aren't.

In fact, the corporation known as "District of Columbia" is the biggest and most powerful multi-national corporation on the planet.

House slave. You can't even admit you are wrong when the bankers can take $2 trillion without even having to ask us/our government.

Sucker.

And our government can take back the country, if enough of us woke up. But you are still snoring in deep REM.

Yet again, you're long on political bias, witless epithets, and short on facts.

From the federal archives themselves, nitwit:

351.1 ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY

Established: Effective June 1, 1871, by an act of February 21, 1871 (16 Stat. 419), abolishing the Corporations of the City of Washington, DC, and Georgetown, DC, and the Levy Court of Washington County, DC; and replacing them with a municipal corporation known as the District of Columbia.

Records of the Government of the District of Columbia

Means absolutely nothing to me. Don't care, doesn't matter.

And you'll do anything to change the subject. You must be a rich banker.

Either that or a ****.

Of course it means nothing to you because you don't know what the hell you're talking about....Yet again.

And, also unlike you, I'm the one here who is 100% on topic and not changing the subject to the poster, rather than that topic.

Any more irrelevant witless-isms you'd like to toss around here??

Enron - Owned by government officials.

Microsoft - Boosted by government contracts.

Wal-Mart - That one is just a stupid analogy.

As for your pay/etc. ... MS and WM hire people others don't and pay well for based on their markets.

No, not even close.

Governments have killed hundreds of millions of people over the past century. Corporations have not.

Are private corporations more powerful than our government right now?

I guess you could say that Bush killed millions of Iraqi's. That would be a high number, but it might be true.

But who benefitted? Hunt Oil? Haloburton & Blackwater? CORPORATIONS!

Ok, here is all the proof I need to win this one. The Federal Government had to bicker and fight over $750 billion dollars.

But before that, the Federal Reserve just gave their banker buddies $2 trillion dollars.

Bloomberg Sues Fed to Force Disclosure of Collateral (Update1) - Bloomberg.com

And the media protected the bankers who own the federal reserve. They didn't even tell you this. Did you hear this on Fox or MSNBC? Didn't think so.

Checkmate.

The question you should be asking is, "who's more imporant, we the people or the corporations.

If any of that is true, the government owns and regulates those companies ... so who is really still in power?

Look into who "owns" the Federal Reserve. Bankers. Some of them not even American.

And we tried to regulate them. They told us to fuck off.

But you are right. The government can undo what they did in 1913 when they gave the bankers the power.

But the bankers control them. $$$$

No, not even close.

Governments have killed hundreds of millions of people over the past century. Corporations have not.

Most righties (except Ron Paul righties) are sooo busy defending free markets and capitalism over communism/socialism that they don’t realize it is the corporations that are screwing the middle class.
When we show right wingers that the Federal Reserve is owned by private bankers and before the $750 billion bailout, they already gave themselves $2 trillion, they just don’t reply. I imagine it is too much information for them to take in. Like if you witness a murder or you walk in on your parents doing it. You try to block out the horrific details.
Well Republicans, it is time to get over the shock. Snap out of it. Your party is corrupt and everything you have stood for your whole life has been a bunch of bullshit.
Time to take the country back.
And remember idiots. We’d be all for trickle down and for fiscal conservative economics if they worked or if the GOP were sincere. Who wouldn't? Why wouldn’t we vote GOP if they were better for us? You guys just think the GOP are better for you. Trust us, they are not. You may also be in shock because your home value and stock collapsed. And I know you are used to blaming the Dems, but trust us on this one, the GOP fucked you good. There may have even been a time when the GOP was good. Like when Reagan was president. But those days are long gone. And look at you. You are one of us. A HAVE NOT!!!
We don't HATE corporations. We don't hate the rich. Why when the CEO wants $20 million is it capitalism but when workers want more its socialism?

If any of that is true, the government owns and regulates those companies ... so who is really still in power?

Let's not forget which entity consecrates corporate charters into law, extends limited liabilities from lawsuits to corporations, alternately extends and retracts various and sundry tax breaks and regulations, operates huge protection rackets like the FDA which squeeze out all but the biggest corporations from the game....The list goes on and on.

Like I said in my first offering on the topic...Corporations are merely the capos, it's big gubmint that is Don Vito.
