That's seriously clueless, liberals say that all the time. But as for why liberals are dumber than everyone else, it's an ideology that advances the farce that government makes choices over our lives better than we do. There are two types of liberals, those who believe they can control those choices and those who believe them. There are a lot more of the latter than the former and they are the ones who aren't as intelligent as an average person.

The House, not the president, controls spending. All spending bills start in the House. The president can only approve or deny what the Congress spends.

No, that would be Democrats. But that was also due to the Great Recession. And don't forget ... Bush approved the continuing resolution which budgeted spending for half of FY2009. But to return to the discussion, which was spending, not deficits ... the biggest spending years occurred under Republican-led Houses.

Keep adding qualifiers to find something you can pin on Democrats. Meanwhile, the record for spending remains with Republicans. And see that? No qualifiers needed.

Some comments, sure, but I think most people will agree that there are far, far more posts labelling liberalism as being in some way stupid, a mental illness etc than there are posts about conservatism claiming the same superiority.

I don't get this at all - I see no link between political views and intelligence. I've met some brilliant socialists, a couple of brilliant fascists, and everything in between. I have met enough painfully stupid liberals and painfully stupid conservatives that I don't think either side are in too great a position to start claiming a monopoly on smarts.

Isn't claiming 'liberalism is a mental illness' the kind of Catch 22 comment that only an intellectual dwarf could assume?

Or is there a reason that some conservatives believe they are intellectually superior?
