The fact of the matter is, the government told farmers they could not develop their land, and provided them with subsidies to buy them off. If the development/farming restrictions go away, so should the subsidies.

It was the government who told farmers to take their fields out of production. The subsidies were meant to pay for that. If they allow farmers to do as they please with their land, the subsidies are meaningless and would disappear.

But as usual, the left wants to restrict production, while at the same time removing all support. It's part of the plan to deliver all vast tracts of land, both public and private, into the hands of the government...and their own personal friends.
