Arab League criticizes allied airstrikes on Libya

Yes, THAT Arab league..

Didn’t take long did it? I guess their idea of a no fly zone is, well a NO FLY zone.
Or they played us, I think they played us personally. *shrugs*

In any event lets see how this plays out.

Arab League criticizes allied airstrikes on Libya
(AP) – 5 hours ago

CAIRO (AP) — The head of the Arab League has criticized international strikes on Libya, saying they caused civilian deaths.

The Arab League's support for a no-fly zone last week helped overcome reluctance in the West for action in Libya. The U.N. authorized not only a no-fly zone but also "all necessary measures" to protect civilians.

Amr Moussa says the military operations have gone beyond what the Arab League backed.

Moussa has told reporters Sunday that "what happened differs from the no-fly zone objectives."

Maybe the Arab League can invent a Smart-Bomb that only kills troops wearing uniforms.

It appears the Arabs say one thing in private, and another in public. .

Didn't the Arab league ok the strikes, now they are upset about it? go figure.

But they didn't want anybody killed!!!

If it wasn't for their oil I would recommend we just let them murder each other.

Arabs tend to start shit then ask for help when things get outta hand. We have to risk looking like imperialists or like uncaring isolationists.

The rub is ether way you end up being criticized.

It appears the Arabs say one thing in private, and another in public.

Of the Arab states, only Qatar has openly supported the Western-led campaign and their planes are now moving into position near Libya.

Sky sources confirm the United Arab Emirates is offering help but does not seek to publicise it.

The same Qatar that gives us Al Jazeera?

from the link;

Moussa said the Arab League’s approval of a no-fly zone on March 12 was based on a desire to prevent Moammar Gaddafi’s air force from attacking civilians and was not designed to endorse the intense bombing and missile attacks — including on Tripoli, the capital, and on Libyan ground forces — whose images have filled Arab television screens for two days.'

“What is happening in Libya differs from the aim of imposing a no-fly zone,” he said in a statement carried by the official Middle East News Agency. “And what we want is the protection of civilians and not the shelling of more civilians.”

and there it is, I am also watching Wolf Blitzer right now, he just made exactly the same comment, it appears we may have been had.

I have said all along, this is not a no fly zone, they are to be kind, shading the truth.

Anyone ever see Breaker Morant?...I am reminded of the part where Edward Woodward and Bryan Brown are walking past peters cell towards their death, ( he, peter was spared a firing squad) and he calls out to them, Woodward was he slowly walks by says, " this is what come of empire building peter"....if you saw the movie or know the story you'll see the flavor of the comment I am making.

My question is why is the U.N doing this in libya and did nothing last year in Iran? What about Darfur?

Iran is big fish.
Libya is midget fish of 6 Million people equipped with 1960's Soviet weapons, and production costs of Oil are 1$ per Barrel in Libya as Libya is a flat desert nation with Oil not deep.

and the french need to lash out because they gave up on Lebanon and Egypt.

Making show in Paris isn't an international consensus.
France has destroyed other options with its hasty actions. Now the West is basically in another War with a Muslim country, and US-France try to convince some insignificant Gulf Sultanates to join the operation with 4-5 Aircrafts so it gets legitimacy for US's PR in Muslim world.

Diplomats said Turkey, NATO’s only predominantly Muslim member, was angered by its exclusion from an emergency summit Saturday in Paris organized by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, at which the 22 participants agreed to launch armed action against Gadhafi’s military. The diplomats said Turkey’s envoys have warned that NATO’s participation in the airstrikes could damage the alliance’s standing in the Islamic world at a time when it is heavily engaged in the war in Afghanistan.
