WASHINGTON When it comes to paying for a health care overhaul, Americans see just one way to go: Tax the rich.
That finding from a new Associated Press poll will be welcome news for House Democrats, who proposed doing just that in their sweeping remake of the U.S. medical system, which passed earlier this month and would extend coverage to millions of uninsured Americans.
The poll found participants sour on other ways of paying for the health overhaul that is being considered in Congress, including taxing insurers on high-value coverage packages derided by President Barack Obama and Democrats as "Cadillac plans."
That approach is being weighed in the Senate. It is one of the few proposals in any congressional legislation that analysts say would help reduce the nation's health expenditures, but it has come under fire from organized labor and has little support in the House.
Lawmakers also are looking at levying new taxes on insurance companies, drug companies and medical device makers. But the only approach that got majority support in the AP poll was a tax on upper-income Americans.
The House bill would impose a 5.4 percent income tax surcharge on individuals making more than $500,000 a year and households making more than $1 million.

Insanity- those so-called rich are small and large business owners, when you tax them they will not expand or grow their companies, therefore not HIRE employees, they will cut back and lay more people off.
We have 15.7 million people unemployed right now, that number is still rising. The last thing we need to do is put an additional burden on the employers of Americans. This is just another example of the total lack of sound economic sense by this administration and the democratic controlled congress and senate. They all need a good dose of common sense and econ 101.

the cost of doing business, employee pay, materials, etc, does not come into play regarding a tax like this, tax is applied to personal income.
Oh yeah, gotta spread the wealth. Take it from those that earned it and give it to those that didn't and what better way than to increase the taxes on those that earned it??? AFter all, its the socialist way. Lets spread that wealth and support all the dead beats out tere. After all, why should they get a job or buy health insurance when the "Rich" are here to take care of them.
When you give a majority of persons the ability to vilify a group AND to make them pay for something that you might see the services from... in general, the populous will not go against such a thing... and because of such tyranny from the masses, we have a Constitution to protect us against such actions... unfortunately for us, the government has shit all over the Constitution for many years now
