Oceans were 90 feet higher? So why aren't oceans 90 feet higher today?
So, you don't have the faintest hint of a clue.
The higher carbon dioxide levels in the air change the earth's energy balance: less energy is being radiated back into space.
That means, over time, the earth arrives at a new energy equilibrium: the earth's temperature rises, so does the radiation out to space, until energy in equals energy out.
This process takes many decades, if not centuries. This is the reason why, even if we stopped to burn fossil fuels today, the earth's temperature would continue to rise for many decades.
During this process, the earth's land-based ice starts to melt, and will melt at an accelerated rate with the rising temperatures. This also takes many decades, if not centuries.
And that's why we won't reach ocean levels last seen in the Pliocene for many decades, if not centuries.
The question I asked was, HTF did they know what the PPM was during that time? Hell, how did they know what it was 100 years ago?
/----/ Pliocene period scientists taking environmental measurements.Pontificating at a Green New Deal rally on Monday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who just claimed on Sunday that her apocalyptic prediction in January that the world would end in 12 years unless serious action was taken to combat climate change had just been "dry humor," suddenly returned to her climate change hysteria, stating CO2 levels had reached the highest levels in recorded history and the last time the levels were this high "bacteria and diseases we have never seen before roamed the Earth."
Ocasio-Cortez ranted, “It was reported today that this weekend for the first time in human history we have reached atmospheric levels of carbon at 415 parts per million. This has never been seen in recorded human history. In fact meteorologist Eric Holthaus and journalist said simply about this measurement, ‘We do not know a planet like this.’ The last time our planet hit 415 we were in the Pliocene period. Oceans were 90 feet higher. Bacteria and diseases we have never seen before roamed the Earth. Humans did not exist. We have never seen a planet like this. And a planet like this is exactly what we are going to get, and it is exactly what we are going to inherit from previous generations if we do not act positively now."
Ocasio-Cortez Issues Another Apocalyptic Climate Rant. Is This More Of Her ‘Dry Humor’?
Only one question here: What technology and devices were used to make this measurement during the Pliocene period? I didn't even know what the pliocene period was. So I looked it up. It was a time frame between 2 and 5 million years. The wheel wasn't even invented yet.
Oceans were 90 feet higher? So why aren't oceans 90 feet higher today?
Sure it does.Actually, real science, you know, that which you can actually see and measure, doesn't agree with you
I see you are here to whine. Not sure what "DAN" means. Is that an acronym you INCELs have made up for others?Bullshit. You are not intelligent enough to comprehend science, DAN.So what? It's still a fact.proclaims the stupidest of the stupid USMB members
So, you really dont understand that we can measure events of the past? Interesting. Do you have anything topical to add, or just your usual anti science denier religious nutter, screed?
/----/ No we can't. What we can do is make educated guesses using computer models that may or may not be manipulated to generate a given outcome. It's insidious because there is no way we can verify it - we're expected to take your word based on some fancy chart. So, you really dont understand that we can measure events of the past? There are only so many hours in a day, and to fill the vastness of the many holes in your knowledge, generated by your willful ignorance, certainly exceeds my time constraints. So I chose to answer one of your questions, sure of your gratitude, while Fort Fun Indiana (post #50) answered another of your questions. Be sure to study the linked text carefully, and thank him for it, if you find the time.
Ugh....so painfully wrong....No we can't.
If this AGW scam was not a scam and was real there would be no reason for the filthy ass Environmental Wackos to falsify data, which we catch the bastards doing all the time. That asshole Obama even corrupted NASA and NOAA into producing false data when he was President.
Also, maybe some of the stupid ass predictions the idiot Environmental Wackos constantly make would come true. None of it has come true with any verifiable data.
Except for the stupidity that socialism works this AGW bullshit is probably the biggest scam ever made in human history.
These Moon Bats don't ever disappoint with their stupidity. They have fallen for the scam hook line and sinker just like they have fallen for the scam that socialism will work if we implement it in the US. Dumbasses!
I actually feel sorry for them. In the next couple of decades with the coming solar minimal, which will freeze our asses off, they will become the joke of recent history.
/----/ Nothing more than an educated guess. I'm 68 and these theories have been debated and changed since I was a kid.Ugh....so painfully wrong....No we can't.
You know less than nothing about this material. You imply that you have outsmarted people who have dedicated their lives to these fields of science, despite you having no education or experience in their fields. You also make the retarded implication that the scientiats are laboring under the ignorance of their own discoveries. You are embarrassing yourself.
