He just had Jack Layton on, Mr. Layton is the head of the New Democratic Party of Canada and he was brought on to dispel the "myths" about Canada's wait times and other "myths" that the mean Conservatives are saying about their fine system.

It really isn't the profits that are driving up healthcare costs. Profits from insurance are a very small percentage of total revenue. What is driving up the cost is everything between insurance and the actual care. Administrative costs on both side, the insurance companies and the providers, are much of the cause. And no, there isn't enough competetion.

The biggest problem with our system is that employers are involved in providing our benefits. If everyone had to purchase their own insurance rather than get it through their employers, you would see costs drop like a rock. You would have most people purchasing major medical only plans and paying out of pocket for their routine healthcare. They could set up tax credits for lower income earners to purchase insurance. The the only issue would be figuring out how to cover those with pre-existing conditions.

What's Canada's excuse then,they don't have multiple insurance companies to deal with? I think people should get insurance completely out of primary care, even specialists,get it for catastrophic purposes only, you'd probably be happier too.
