Anyone know of a good free anti-virus?

I use AVG which has a free version, never have had a problem.

A number of them. I know people that use free AVG with no complaints other than a fair amount of popups to buy AVG professional.

its a free trial but no longer free for good
They can be a little "tricky" in trying to get you to use their paid version. Here's a link to the download (Avast site), click on the Free Download and read everything that pops up to continue to the free download. When updating/installing READ EVERYTHING and unselect or do not accept their Free Trial for the Pro version.
Once installed go into settings and set the pop up messages for 1 second duration, the messages that are basically ads for their Pro version and other products.

I've been using Windows Essentials with Windows 7 for about four years now. It is very easy to install and there is nothing complicated about it. I've had no problems with viruses or malware and Essentials has caught and quarantined problems on a few occasions.

My thinking is Essentials was created by MicroSoft, which is Windows, so who would know better how to protect Windows?
