Any small government conservatives out there?

They just passed a huge increase in spending. Why not just not pass anything? We didn’t need more spending...
You have a link, so I can see the details? I agree, I would like less, but I'll need the details to see what happened.
Some details
Trump Signs Budget Deal to Raise Spending and Reopen Government

Rand Paul only one who seemed to know it was bad.
crap, its behind a pay wall, ill check into it....gonna be a bit though.
It looks like the one to avert a shutdown, so they probably gave the dems a little something to avoid it..so they could claim something for their constituents........I don't like it, but it's Washington.....but ill check into the details.
Some details from link:
With Mr. Trump’s signature, the government will reopen before many Americans were aware it had closed, with a deal that includes about $300 billion in additional funds over two years for military and nonmilitary programs, almost $90 billion in disaster relief in response to last year’s hurricanes and wildfires, and a higher statutory debt ceiling.

Well the disaster relief, I would like to know how that is being implemented. if it's to rebuild houses, good, if it's for porn...bad
300Billion for programs, I'd need to see what it was doing. Are the programs working?

the biggest issue in the federal government is the programs
We need metrics....we have none
Try monitoring them, but again the left hates that idea
I think we had enough programs. Add them when there is money, don’t borrow for them.

Only almost everything you claimed was true.
Well that is what they are doing, you seem to be blind...
Hang on, you've been cool, so I wont be a dick.
But
The republicans do have deficits, we're not happy, but they were huge under Obama, gonna take awhile to get them down.
Second in order to really put a dent in them, we need to reform entitlements......

Those things should be bipartisan, but are not.....and the dems may not have the votes to pass, but they have them to filibuster...so it' isn't gonna happen.

That's the reality of the situation, so the republicans are trying to cut a little here and there, and then hopefully we can do something together with the democrats...but you guys need to be willing to forgoe many programs.......it's not going to be easy.

Lets also clear this up, filthy lying establishment RINO's in the Republican party are not conservatives. Give fiscal conservatives control of the budget and this mess would be cleaned up. We'll start with the nearly $400 BILLION in government waste and fraud that was lost 2016 alone. That's 10% of the Federal budget.
Fiscal conservatives still exist? I haven’t seen any.

Doesn't mean they don't exist.
True, they seem to be getting more rare.

I'd like them to be removed and let the states handle it......but less power for the feds

Me too, but I think that would mean higher state taxes in red states and politicians don’t want that.

Maybe, and some of the states would be like........oh well.......that program died...which im also ok with.

Are there still any small government conservatives. The "conservative", right leaning republicans on this board seem to mostly be big government/big spending. They support the increased deficits now that they are Republican deficits. They support corporate welfare and the government picking winners and losers. They support the government picking winners and losers with tariffs. Just curious if there are still any real small government conservatives out there.

They've gone into hiding.

It is hard to predict. But I think they are comfortable now with low state taxes and collecting more federal...

Well lets score your post, wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong, wrong. You may want to start over.
Repubs control the government and that is what they are doing. So what is wrong?

Only almost everything you claimed was true.

Both sides have to be willing to give in on their sacred cows, what are the chances of that happening?

White House announces proposed revamp of federal government, including a consolidation of social safety net programs

The White House on Thursday announced a proposed overhaul of the federal government that would merge the Labor and Education departments, consolidate a slew of social safety net programs under a renamed health agency and reorganize federal food safety functions.

But it will go nowhere. Too many rice bowls to protect.

I agree it will not go anywhere, Obama tried some similar things and they were dead in the water once they hit congress.

I am against the current tax cuts, I am against corporate welfare, I am for a balanced budget and would be willing to see taxes go up, only if we would use it in conjunction with lowering the deficit and cutting spending. Unemployment insurance and social security you pay into so these are not entitlements and I have no issue with them.
Sounds good to me. Why is it no politicians are on board?

It is political suicide, that's why. You are taking things away from the people, you are making short term sacrifices, it will initially slow the economy down, and politicians are about making everyone feel good now, not what is best for the country long term.

Yeah, change is hard no matter what...but I think people will come around...paying off my credit cards makes me feel much better even though I cant buy as much shit while doing it...….same with the deficit and the debt....get it fixed, then you wont' have to worry about stuff

That'll simply never happen until the country collapses entirely. Politicians now on both sides of the aisle are only in the game of seeing how many government goodies they can secure for their constituents under the guise of "working for you." The majority of candidates that run on "we need to drastically reduce the amount of money you get from the government" will get slaughtered.

It'd be like asking kids to vote against Santa Claus.

But most people do not feel that way, most will run a balance on their cards for their entire lives and die with one.

As is ours, but we are the exception, not the norm. If everyone was like us all the CC companies would have long ago been out of business.

Once again, I find myself looking for the 'sad and agree' reaction.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for good, civil discussion. They are rare here...
