White House announces proposed revamp of federal government, including a consolidation of social safety net programs

The White House on Thursday announced a proposed overhaul of the federal government that would merge the Labor and Education departments, consolidate a slew of social safety net programs under a renamed health agency and reorganize federal food safety functions.

But it will go nowhere. Too many rice bowls to protect.

I agree it will not go anywhere, Obama tried some similar things and they were dead in the water once they hit congress.
normally that is true. I think Trump has the balls to not care what the insiders think and to do stuff. I mean he put Scott Pruitt at EPA and he is crushing the establishment there and he also reversed net neutrality......both are good and both the DC area HATES. And I saw where he removed 20 regs for every new one....now that is awesome.

Trump's 2018 Regulatory Reform Agenda By the Numbers

There is so much to do in Washington, he's the first guy that is doing it. I mean pulling out of a UN commission on Human Rights was ballsy and huge.....and worth it, the commission is a joke......so we do have someone who will give it the old college try.

Me too, but I think that would mean higher state taxes in red states and politicians don’t want that.
Maybe, and some of the states would be like........oh well.......that program died...which im also ok with.
It is hard to predict. But I think they are comfortable now with low state taxes and collecting more federal...
Yeah, change is hard no matter what...but I think people will come around...paying off my credit cards makes me feel much better even though I cant buy as much shit while doing it...….same with the deficit and the debt....get it fixed, then you wont' have to worry about stuff

But most people do not feel that way, most will run a balance on their cards for their entire lives and die with one.
Mine is paid off every month and saves me $ with cash back!
LOL, yeah I just got married went to Italy, so I have some debt to pay off, but it will be and it's so much better to not have it!

The removal of regs are for the most part a needed thing, I do worry about the sledgehammer approach, but can't have everything I guess.

I disagree with the UN move, all that does is isolate us from the rest of the world and diminishes our influence, something I do think is a good thing

I do not see enough people in Congress giving their approval of the combining of different agencies, and that he cannot do without Congress's approval.

Well I can understand that part of the UN move. My thing though is it lets people know we are serious about it. Having a sham committee isn't really helping. Now that we've withdrawn, we can put more pressure on the UN, especially financially.......And I think people respect us more. They know where they stand with Trump, he tells them to their face, unlike past politicians which we more covert and duplicitous.

In the end it was unusual, but I think it will pay off. Now the committee can't use us as an excuse to do things we don't want done. They have to deal directly with us.....good luck!

And with congress, it depends. I think Trump is doing a great job in this area and if he continues, and say wins reelection, he can use some more weight to make em an offer they can't refuse.

Nobody respects the person that takes their ball and goes home because they did not get their way.

Are there still any small government conservatives. The "conservative", right leaning republicans on this board seem to mostly be big government/big spending. They support the increased deficits now that they are Republican deficits. They support corporate welfare and the government picking winners and losers. They support the government picking winners and losers with tariffs. Just curious if there are still any real small government conservatives out there.

Nah, it's not like that.....it's more like, you guys are full of shit, there is no point to this. we are no longer giving this charade any legitimacy (the thing they are worried Kim got for one meeting)......Kim will atleast try and work with us, the council will not.....time to 86 em...and if Kim doesn't, we do the same.

Says the big government socialist.

I think compared to current republicans Bill Clinton would be small government.

Maybe. But if he'd had both houses of Congress, I sort of suspect he'd have jumped into bed with the insurance industry just like Obama did.

Possibly, but he did pretty good with almost balancing the budget, welfare reform, reducing crime dramatically, strong economy.... Congress gets credit too of course.
