Yeah, gettin old sucks. As far as your cyst go's if you can't wait you have two options, one is to drain it. Big needle, lots of goo, nasty smell. Usually works, but a recurrence is possible within a short time. Other option is cortisone shots. They take time but will eventually cause the cyst to disappear. You say the knee is stable but is there torn cartilage? If so an operation to repair that damage may be needed.

Give it some time, a week is nothing for a baker's cyst. I had one for months behind my right knee and I run marathons. I had it looked at by a knee specialist and he said there was little risk associated with it. It is almost gone now.

A few years ago I was bitten by a small black fly that came from the neighbor's horse stall and landed on a compost pile outside the kitchen window. It left a swelling on my elbow as big as a golf ball, which lasted for at least six weeks. I was looking on the internet for what kind of fly it might have been, and the nearest thing I could find was a "Blandford fly," but I don't even live on that side of the world.

The doctor prescribed cephalexin or cephalosporin or something like that for 30 days, but it didn't really seem to have any effect at making the infection or swelling go down any faster.
