Interesting maneuver by the Democrats on this one. They made it a suspension so no amendments could be added to it, but which require a 2/3 vote.

So its true they can blame the Republicans for stopping its passage on the vote, but if they really wanted to pass it they would have brought it up as a regular rule, and limited the amendments that could be added. Or they could have voted down the amendments, or swallowed a few that were annoying but not deal breakers.

This was posturing pure and simple. Remember this will probably only play negatively for the Republicans in the NE and maybe the west coast. Most of middle america and the south won't be bothered by this and thats where the Republican base is now.
