Anthem Blue Cross raises premiums 39%

No wonder you are so eager for everyone else to pay for your coverage.

Why should I pay an insurance company to lobby Congress to deny me coverage?

Only an idiot would do that.

leach

Not at all.

I pay for all of my healthcare out of my own pocket.

I don't smoke, I don't drink, and I don't do drugs.

And everyone in my family lives to be 95.

Why should I pay for your bad habits?

it's nice that your family lives to an age equal to its collective IQ.

Anthem Blue Cross customers got a shock this week when the health insurer informed thousands of individual policyholders that their premium rates will jump as much as 39 percent on March 1.

"There aren't any other parts of our society where people have no regard for inflation rate and increase their prices this much. I can't imagine anything in the world that's going up 39 percent," said Josh Libresco, 54, of San Rafael, as he grappled with the news that his family premium will go from $858 per month to $1,192 - and that's with a $5,000 deductible.

If there were a public option, this would not have happened. The insurance companies have us over a barrel and they know it.

That's why we need a public option. To keep the insurance companies in line.

That's why the Republicans and the Blue Dogs in Congress are fighting it so hard.

The only way to fight back is to drop your insurance. That's what I did.

Anthem Blue Cross raises premiums 39%

Maybe some competition would convince them to bring down their rates

Oh...I forgot....That would be SOCIALISM

No... adding competition is not socialism

Adding the mythical competition where the governing body forces participation and provides an 'option' where forced redistribution facilitated by government bureaucracy, is not adding competition

But nice try, Mr. Disingenuous

Of course it would and no, it wouldn't be called socialism, it would be called dropping the foolish restriction of limiting people to purchase within their own state!

So whats YOUR solution? Seriouosly, other than saying no, whats your soulution....republicans...

I have Blud Cross Blue Shield here in Georgia. My policy went up 20%. My wife is a top tennis player and I am in great shape at age 54. NO prescriptions at all and workout weekly.
13 years ago my policy was $2500 a year. 6 1/2 years ago it was 5K a year. This yearit will be 13K.
In 6 1/2years it will be 26K and in 13 years my health premium will be 52K.
Fifty Two thousand dollars a year in 2023 for my health care policy.
And folks claim this is a great country for health care.
What a friggin myth that is.

My friends Medicare Advantage Plan, Premier Health, raised her's from $25 to over $100 and that is because they can and they have to make a profit to pay bonuses to their CEOs. If we do not get a healthcare bill some many more will not be able to buy healthcare, seniors are hurting as well.

Tort reform?.... LMAO

And states like FL that have done tort reform now have so much cheaper insurance?

All studies I have seen on it shows all legal expenses cost a low single digit percentage of total healthcare costs. Why then is it going up 39%?

somehow, the state of maine stopped anthem blue cross from raising their rates 20% and locked them in at raising them 10% this year, and now Anthem Blue cross blue shield is SUING our state for not allowing the 20% increase.... :(

They made boocoos in profit last year...why they need a rate increase is beyond reason. figures corrected

what company or business can raise their prices in the middle of one of the worst recessions in our history...where people are jobless, making less on average than they did etc....NO ONE...NO BUSINESS that is a true free capitalistic business can do such....

THIS IS WHY Health care DOES NOT, WILL NOT ever work on the free market of capitalism....IT IS NOT A SIMPLE WIDGET.....it is a necessity for most and most can not live their lives without having it...thus Insurance companies, hospitals, doctors, medical technologists, pharma...can charge whatever they want and milk us to the bone.

Technically the more profit insurance companies make the better our economy is.

How screwed up is that?

Then purchase a policy with a different company that's cheaper. Problem solved.
If only the Democrats would let people purchase insurance from other States, then there would be true competition and cost containment.

But they're not about to allow that. So sad for America.

Umm you mean Blue Cross is not available in all states?

I used to have Blue Cross of GA while living in KY.
It worked fine for my DR, hospital and prescriptions.

I call bullshit on this angle.

When the republicans were in full power of the house, senate, and whitehouse or for the 12 years they controlled the house and senate...NOT ONCE did they try to change the law that allowed insurance companies to be exempt from antitrust laws.....NOT ONCE....wile every year under bush, we had a near double digit price hike for our insurance.

BOTH SIDES are at fault on this....

so pleaseeeeee SPARE ME on the political jargon of what the democrats should do to save us

Tort reform is a JOKE.
How many gazillionaire doctors in Congress?
