Poor guy, another vacation. Didn't he just have one? Or is he still on it?

POLITICO 44 | A Living Diary of the Obama Presidency
After a mid-August trip to America's national parks and a weeklong vacation on Martha's Vineyard, President Obama plans ...

... to take a little more time away from the office next week.

Obama will head to Camp David on Wednesday, Sept. 2, and stay through the weekend, White House spokesman Bill Burton told reporters in a Thursday briefing.

Joking that it may have been "wishful thinking" to suggest Obama's current trip out of Washington would coincide with a news-free week, Burton quipped that the president needs a "break from his vacation."

but but but booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooshhhhhhh

For the second time in just a few days, however, the deputy press secretary emphasized that Obama hasn't disengaged from his responsibilities.

"When you're president, you've always got that job," Burton said.

On Monday, Burton pointed to former President George W. Bush's vacation habits to defend scattered criticism of Obama's August schedule.

"As I recall, the previous president [took] quite a bit of vacation himself, and I don't think anyone bemoaned that," Burton said.

Too funny.

And libs, we already know that the President is always on the job, it's just the hypocracy that's very entertaining.:lol::lol:

Not me....I thought Bush was most effective when he was on vacation

White House to move to Texas for a while

WASHINGTON — Six months after taking office, President Bush will begin a month-long vacation Saturday that is significantly longer than the average American's annual getaway. If Bush returns as scheduled on Labor Day, he'll tie the modern record for presidential absence from the White House, held by Richard Nixon at 30 days. Ronald Reagan took trips as long as 28 days.

But some Republican loyalists worry about critics who say Bush lets Vice President Cheney and other top officials do most of the work. They're also concerned about the reaction of the average American, who gets 13 vacation days each year.

"It can foster other images," says William Benoit, a professor of political communication at the University of Missouri-Columbia. "Maybe he's lazy, maybe he's not determined. It feeds into the impression that he's not in charge."

Bush, who is scheduled to return to Washington on Sept. 3,(8 days before the 9-11 attack) is taking his vacation while Congress is in recess. Cheney will be in Wyoming.

Thank you for pointing that out.

Will we see any concerns for Obama's vacations?

Camp David is pretty much like the WH, operationally. But with a lot more trees and no white.

I'm taking the Labor Day weekend off too.

Maybe I should feel guilty

Has Obama recieved a PDB titled "Bin Laden determined to attack inside the US" and ignored it to clear brush and drink lemonade on his ranch?

Personally, I hope he stays where he is.

And as for Ted... do we really need another Kennedy stinking up Arlington?

yes that was certainly a very clear and concise report. :cuckoo:

It was obvious just looking at it that Bin Laden was going to attack the Pentagon, the WDC and the WH.

It's too bad Jamie Gorelick's incompetence allowed things to go unchecked.

psst, they still want to attack inside the US. Bush made it harder for them.

Obama would like to make it easier.

Really? Looks to me as if Obama is loathe to give up the ground Shrubco and d*a*r*t*h* Cheney staked out for the executive.......

Holder is doing his thing against Obama's wishes. Obama can't say diddley.

Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US was the President's Daily Brief given to U.S. President George W. Bush on August 6, 2001. The President's Daily Brief (PDB) is a brief of important classified information on national security collected by various U.S. intelligence agencies given to the president and a select group of senior officials. The brief warned of terrorism threats from Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda over a month before the September 11, 2001 attacks.[1]

Some arguments have focused on clear warnings in this letter, specifically that:
  • the title was Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US
  • a large attack was planned
  • the attack would be on United States soil
  • target cities of attacks included New York City and Washington, D.C.
  • the World Trade Center bombing was explicitly mentioned
  • hijacked plane missions were anticipated
  • people living in, or traveling to, the United States were involved
  • recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York was witnessed.
The PDB was declassified and approved for release on April 10, 2004, for the 9/11 Commission, and later reported on in the 9/11 Commission Report. The Report stated in Chapter 8 ("The System was Blinking Red"), Section 1 ("The Summer of Threat"):

We have found no indication of any further discussion before September 11 among the President and his top advisers of the possibility of a threat of an al Qaeda attack in the United States. DCI Tenet visited President Bush in Crawford, Texas, on August 17 and participated in PDB briefings of the President between August 31 (after the President had returned to Washington) and September 10. But Tenet does not recall any discussions with the President of the domestic threat during this period.

But Dubya was busy clearing brush and breaking records for presidential vacation time!
