was Italy's-----BUT somehow this guy got to France ???

Tunisia was a French protectorate. That's why they all speak French, not Italian. Neighbouring Libya was an Italian colony.

you are right---FRENCH PROTECTORATE-----previously OTTOMAN EMPIRE----but for a short time in the 40s ---sorta occupied by Italian Nazi--hood

I've been there. It has a lovely French elegance to it.

the only Tunisian I have known----left---it seems shortly after the Nazi Italians left----ie ---probably around 1945. Things got
bad for jews
