Does anyone know if they received stimulus money too????

Only 13 million...............

Rochester Hills, Mich., January 21, 2010 – Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. (ECD) (NASDAQ: ENER), the leading global manufacturer of thin-film flexible solar laminate products for the building integrated and commercial rooftop markets, today announced that its affiliate United Solar Ovonic LLC has received stimulus support from the Department of Energy and the Department of Treasury.

The company was notified late last week that its application for a Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit was approved. The $13.275 million credit will support United Solar Ovonic’s plan to invest $42 million in its Auburn Hills 1 facility to upgrade equipment used in its commercial solar deposition process.

Upon successful completion of the upgrades, the deposition machines will have significantly greater output. These improvements will lower the company’s cost of manufacturing while increasing the efficiency of the solar laminates and is expected to create approximately 600 jobs in Michigan.

“We are very appreciative of the Obama Administration’s efforts to support American clean technology through the stimulus programs,” said Mark Morelli, ECD President and CEO. “We are also grateful for the support from Senators Stabenow and Levin, Congressman Peters and other members of the Michigan congressional delegation. Governor Granholm and her staff were also critical in supporting our application. These elected officials do an important job in Washington and here in Michigan of delivering a consistent message of support for American manufacturing jobs and business in Michigan.”

...and if they did, how much did they kick into the Obama bagmen to get the stimulus money?

Germany: A shining Example of Solar Success

No doubt conservatives were against the horseless carriage.

Too bad US companies can't make it like those in Germany. Yet again the cars they make are pretty durn good as well.

When you receive stimulus money and turn around and donate to the campaign of the guy who gave it to you, what do you think is gonna happen.

I'm not worried about Germany, I'm still working on taxpayer money going to those that are "chosen" by the administration and still can't make it.

We'll discuss Germany another time if that's OK.

So many people in that town have suffered so much! Many lost jobs when Electrolux closed...some of them went to this solar company, now most likely out of work again! I can't help but think these things are going to ruin Obama.... wow, i hope so!

Besides, Germany doesn't have Obama! (Darn!) That's a big plus for them!!! Lol!

Are you that much of a partisan hack that you can't see this for what the fuck it is?? Who's dumb ass would approve stimulus money to this company if it's going belly up 2 years later? Over $13 million down the drain with not a fucking thing to show for it, except for the campaign donations to the Dems in Michigan that finagled the deal.

Fucking liberal twit!

The company has received millions of dollars in state tax breaks but did not receive a Dept. of Energy-backed loan.
Bankruptcy paperwork shows Energy Conversion Devices lists the City of Greenville as a debtor, owing the city $209,866.49 for a "refund of grant proceeds."
The company has been hurt by the elimination of European subsidies that helped boost demand for its products overseas. Increased competition from less-expensive products resulted in declining sales over the past several years.

Hard to understand why they take so much joy in any failure of something with such huge potential benefit.

Hard to understand why libs put so much stock in something that can only exist with massive taxpayer subsidies.... and still eventually falls apart.

Solyndra is one such example.

I don't think it's joy...it's more like pointing out that our tax money is being spent on losing ventures. Money we are borrowing that we have to pay back......plus interest. :eusa_whistle:
To the tune of $10B per week...
