Headline is a bit misleading. Yes, Camden CITY is getting rid of it's Police Force but it's being replaced by Camden COUNTY Police. And whether you believe it's budget woes or Union busting, Police response times will be longer.
Gritty N.J. city of Camden to scrap police department amid budget woes | Fox News
In the latest example of a cash-strapped municipality taking drastic measures to deal with swollen public sector liabilities and shrinking budgets, the city plans to disband its 460-member police department and replace it with a non-union “Metro Division” of the Camden County Police.
Camden County Mayor Dana Redd has said layoffs of the city’s police force will begin by the end of the month. Only 49 percent of current city police officers will be transferred to the new county division, whose members will begin a four- to five-month training program.
Lay off half of the Cops and have the remaining ones be responsible for a larger area. That translates into longer response times.

NJ Concealed Carry laws are "May Issue" but not "Will Issue" so residents would have to jump through hoops to get it. NJ Governor should relax CC permit requirements but I know he won't.

See what happens when you've been domesticated and told to rely on the local Cops? Suddenly their not local anymore!

Remember: "When seconds count, Cops are only minutes away".

It's interesting that the Camden Police Force "has been under the control of the State since 2005". Maybe there is another dimension to the story. It's obvious that the crime ridden city has driven out all of it's tax base and yet the municipal unions still pretend that it's business as usual and contract negotiations can get blood from a stone. Hooray for governor Christie for taking a stand in the political crisis.

Cops never have to protect you.

When a crime has been committed, that's when they come in.

They can protect in terms of future, but not present.

To add, there are a lot of instances when a cop could have stepped in to prevent a crime, but rather sat back until the crime was committed.

Afros are worthless animals who causally and frequently call the police and other emergency services. If you want to save some money, start fining the animals for frivolous emergency calls.

And, after you bust the Afro animals, instead of just putting them behind bars in a zoo, make them pick cotton or clean toilets, to defray some captivity costs.

Indeed.

The police have no legal duty to protect any individual citizen from crime, even if the citizen has received death threats and the police have negligently failed to provide protection. Several state and federal courts have upheld this theory.

It's up to the individual to protect themselves and their family. They are also free to choose to cower in the corner of a gun-free zone and wait for someone else to render aid. Good luck with the latter.

People aren't supposed to depend on cops anyway. The police are there to investigate a crime after it happens, it's the duty of the citizens to defend themselves.

I learned not to depend on the cops a long time ago. People really should be taught self defense in school, including guns and gun safety.
