Another iconic business goes out of business

This is trickle up poverty. The landlord has to raise rents, the deli is maxed out and can't maintain a customer base if he raises prices to accommodate the new rent. The deli goes out of business. It would be the same result if it wasn't the rent being raised, it might be something else. It might be something like unionized workers having to be paid $15.00 an hour.

Yeah, we all know how strong the deli-workers union is.

Delis survive because they don't have a union. Unions will gladly do to fast food what they did to Hostess. Gladly, hell, they will do it joyfully.

Perhaps you should take an economics class and understand the answer for yourself.

Perhaps you should take your own advice and maybe you'd realize why a combination of budget cuts AND additional revenues is the only way to get out of the deficit mess.

You know what's really amusing, Konradv? You actually think that Barry's proposal even BEGINS to address the deficit "mess"!

On what do you base that? His track record in the past? You're kidding...right?

The tax increase on the wealthy is going to bring in a pittance compared to what we're spending on entitlements and Barry, Harry and Nancy have made it very clear that those are off the table. The Obama Administration has consistently run trillion plus deficits each year and will continue to do so until the end of his second term. By that time the interest payments on our accumulated debt are going to be so high that they will be sucking the life out of every segment of our society.

Put aside the progressive talking points and simply look at what Obama has DONE since taking office. He's a tax and spend liberal who's idea of a spending "cut" is not to take as much of an increase as you were originally asking for.

Probably because Obama can't control the landlords (remember, you want government out of business so they can charge whatever they can get).......

It's still called......

With what things cost in NYC, 15/hr is poverty wages.

Yep. It would be hard enough to survive on 15/hr outside of Manhattan, let alone in the city.

Gee, Jose...instead of continually asking for higher minimum wages maybe something to consider is why one CAN'T survive on $15 an hour? Could it possibly be because the cost of goods and services is being ratcheted upwards by the non-stop quantitative easing that we've been doing now for the past five years? Every time the FED starts printing more dollars to keep our floundering ship of State afloat it makes the dollar in all of our's pay checks worth a few pennies less.

The rent is too damn high.

I loved that guy, best piece of political theater in years. Also Obama is responsible for NYC rent hikes?!?

It never ceases to amazes me that people are this stupid. Is "Obama responsible for NYC rent hikes"? Gee...um....let me think.

Obamacare - has caused the costs of having employees to skyrocket

Tax hikes - has demonized the wealthy and promised to punish them

Debt & Deficit - has created an unstable U.S. economy and has placed massive inflation on the horizon

Add to all of this his constant anti-business rhetoric and posture ("pay their fair share", Dodd-Frank bill, etc.) and business have had their throats stepped on by a Marxist determined to punish them for their success and to redistribute their wealth.

But of course the left, being the parasites they are and thus having never run businesses, don't realize how incompetent their policies are, because they don't understand that businesses do not just lay down and accept the will of Obama. They pass those costs on to the consumer, the move jobs over seas, they move accounts offshore, or they close their doors.

Nice work dumbocrats! When the last business closes it's doors, will you finally realize how stupid you are, or will it still be all "Bush's fault"?

God and Mother Nature hate cities anyway. If you crowd laboratory rats, they begin dying spontaneously for no apparent reason. All cities will eventually end up up like Detroit. Pope Sixtus, before returning the papacy from its temporary stay in France insisted that all the murderers, crooks, and other myriad style thugs and criminals that then prowled Rome's streets be killed before his return which paved the way for the Renaissance of Michelangelo and DaVinci to make its great leap from Florence and Venice to Rome.
Thomas Jefferson's ideal American Citizen was the farmer who read Homer in its original Greek at night.
The eventual possible appearance of an "Eye Candy" (his very own description of himself) Barack Obama on the political scene was simply too bizaare and remote an occurrence for the founders to consider.

You don't think a Union realizes that it needs jobs available in order to sustain itself?

Ya .. It's unlikely they would cite bad management and poor food quality. They are most likely republicans. They never take responsibility for their own failures.

Meanwhile thousands of other NYC restaurants are doing quite nicely. Imagine THAT!

Fascinating choice of words:

Huggy: "They never take responsibility for their own failures" - that's because they are too busy taking responsibility for 100% of the failures by idiot liberal dumbocrats like you who think it's everyone else's fault for your lot in life, and are therefore entitled to whatever you want from the working conservatives.

Huggy: "Imagine THAT!" - Yeah, it takes one hell of an imagination to see your twisted, spun, and flat out lying point of view.

As usual, the FACTS completely discredit what you are saying.

Unemployment is higher under Barack Obama and the dumbocrats than it EVER was under Bush. Longest period of +8% unemployment in US history (sans the Great Depression). Looks like "thousands of other NYC restaurants" aren't doing so "quite nicely" after all, uh stupid?

Keep closing your eyes, repeating "we're doing great, we're doing great" and hoping you can will it true....

(Somebody get this man a tin foil hat)

Everything is intertwined economically. Obama owns this mess, all of it.

I'm shocked that the libs won't own up to it, SHOCKED I tell ya!

Including you being a psychotic willfully ignorant fuckwit? I bet if you write him a letter explaining how fucked up you are and how it's all his fault and everything maybe he'll write you back and say he's sorry.

Name one republican politician that has ever apologised for ANYTHING.

Name one republican politician that has ever apologised for ANYTHING.

The most moving of these conservative apologies was the one that Ronald Reagan made in 1988 on signing the legislation that provided $1.25 billion in reparations, along with a formal apology from the government, for the forcible relocation of 120,000 West Coast Japanese-Americans after the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Two decades later, George W. Bush, the Republican closest in ideology to Ronald Reagan, made a similar statement of regret. In a 2008 video conference with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki of Iraq, Bush apologized for the actions of an American sniper in Iraq who used a Quran for target practice. "He apologized for that in the sense that he said that we take it very seriously," White House press secretary Dana Perino told reporters after the video conference. "We wanted them to know that the president knew that this was wrong."

Real conservatives can say they're sorry - CNN.com

How humiliating for you... Time and time again, on this board, your ignorance and your bias is exposed. You have zero credibility with anyone. You're just a blathering idiot looking for attention. And I just proved that once again.

Sorry to hear the Stage Deli is closing. Great corned beef, pastrami, and other sandwiches and stuff.

Isn't there another, similar, deli nearby? I seem to recall walking not too far to another place when the line outside was rather long.

Oh, duh, the Carnegie Deli. That's the other one, or was. Any NYC natives or travelers know if that's still operating?

In NYC you tend to find a deli on practically every block...deli's are where the majority of New Yorkers GO for lunch in the city.
