NJ mayor resigns amid escort website sex scandal

MEDFORD, N.J. (AP) -- The town's married mayor, accused on a website two months ago of having sex with a prostitute at a California hotel, resigned Monday.

The person making the allegation claimed to be a prostitute. He said Myers contacted him through a male escort website and they met at a Newport Beach, Calif., hotel. He complained Myers paid him $500 but didn't fulfill promises of a car and other gifts. He said on the website that the broken promise was the reason he was taking his story public.

The anonymous allegation against Republican Chris Myers, a father of two, included a photo of a man who appeared to be him in his underwear.​

Dec. 6 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee voted to subpoena Jon S. Corzine, former chairman and chief executive officer of MF Global Holdings Ltd., for a Dec. 13 hearing on the collapse of the New York-based brokerage.

Lawmakers on the panel today voted unanimously in Washington to issue the subpoena. Corzine is already scheduled to appear at a Dec. 8 hearing of the House Agriculture Committee, which subpoenaed him last week.

MF Global filed for bankruptcy protection on Oct. 31. The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Securities and Exchange Commission and Justice Department are investigating as much as $1.2 billion in missing customer funds.

SAN FERNANDO, Calif. (KABC) -- Angry residents confronted the mayor of San Fernando on Monday night, days after he admitted he was romantically involved with a councilwoman.


"In September, I spoke to my estranged wife and my children about my new relationship," Mayor Mario Hernandez told a packed council chamber. "I have always remained honest and truthful to my family."

Residents held signs that said "Resign Now."

"You know what mayor? You ain't got no shame at all," said San Fernando resident Samuel Arenas. "I don't have no respect for you."

The mayor stunned the audience at a Nov. 21 city council meeting when he admitted to an affair with Councilwoman Maribel De La Torre.

According to the San Fernando Sun, Hernandez's wife stood up and said they weren't separated when he and De La Torre began their relationship. The newspaper reporter Hernandez had her escorted from the meeting.
