Angry UNIONS announce HUGE blow to Democrats--Obama

Angry Unions Sever Ties With Democrats, Obama

I just can't believe it took this long for unions to server ties with Obama. This is the most anti-business administration in a 150 years--

Getting the formal support of the unions has proven to be an albatross in recent years. Unions have been demonized and as a result businesses have basically won the wage/benefit battles to the point they now call the shots. You should be happy.
I see you skipped wash and rinse, rushing right into the old spin cycle.
This is what happens when the people who got someone elected don't get paid back in spades.

Unions have been squarely in the democrats pockets for decades. So much so, the democrat party takes union support for granted.
Unions will never allow the rank and file to support the GOP. With that in mind the scenario which comes to mind is a split in the democrat party.

another new Party would be nice. Though I think one who's entire Platform consists of Getting as much money for as little work as they can for their Members is not going to be very effective. Only about 22% of Americans are even in a union, and not 100% of them believe in the Liberal Agendas of the Candidates Unions traditionally donate to.

This pipe Dream is never going to happen. At best you might see unions backing a challenger in the Dem Primary, but when push comes to shove they will back any Dem they put up.

When the unions are all gone people will be happy. Then all the middle class people can work for alot less than they make now. No health insurance, no sick days, roll it right back to the days when the factories purposely sacrificed their workers. When the unions are gone the so called BS american dream goes totally down with it. But people will have to hurt badly first in order to figure it out. I'll be gone by then but for my kids sake at least I have versed them well on how not to be taken advantage of by their employers. If you feel mistreated at all, walk out...without notice.

Bullshit, your dumbass is spewing 70's propaganda, labor laws are stringent enough these days that unions aren't needed......

That is not what union president Ronald Reagan thought.

Yes, the Screen Actors Guild. And that was between 1947 and 1952... not today. Your point?

With the money confiscated from these union members to fund Democrats, I have always though would be better invested in benefits for the union member, such as better retirement plans, better unemployment insurance for bad times and better health and dental benefits, but oh no, it has been used to fund the democrat party.

How are all you private sector union members feeling about that now?? If you are laid off, is your union doing anything for you?? Or are they still using your money to fund Democratic campaigns.

Basically you are right, better to invest in members. Problem is, in a capitalist society it requires you play the DC game to get legislation to protect union members. Just letting a republican be gov. of Wisconsin cost unions a lot of money to fight, that would have been better spent on dental and pensions, etc.

I have always thought that way, my brother works for a construction company, he is a union member, has been laid off plenty of times, yet the union does nothing for him to help get him and his family through the hard times, he is not a democrat, yet his money goes to fund a person that he won't vote for.

I am glad I am not a union member because that's just not right.

What would you propose the union do to get him through tough times?. Money management classes to save for a rainy day? An insurance policy to pay his bills when he gets laid off? A credit union where he can bank & borrow. A union's job is to keep you employed. Can't he travel to another area and work? Boom out? Go into foreign work. Hard saying what his problem is. I worked union until I retired, and never had any complaints. I would never work nonunion & put up with the bullshit they do.

At Last!! This marks the beginning of the Socialist Workers Party in America. I said beginning, in the first seed toward that end. As the two party's alienate workers, they will gather for self-preservation and to gain power to fight corporations agenda. This final phase will lead to the SWP of America. This is good news.

"...they will gather for self-preservation and to gain power to fight corporations agenda..."

Oh, man. This is funny stuff....

...do you have an inkling of an idea of where unions invest their pension funds?

Fill in the missing blank:

_ orporations' stocks.

Prove it......................with some of that HAHAHAHAHAA............funny stuf!!:disagree::bsflag:
Laughter? You must be in a parallel universe. Just where do you think unions do their investing? Ant farms?
Of course the pension and dues money is invested. It's invested in securities, hedge funds, commodities, stocks, tax free municipal bonds, government bonds, T-bills...
Please tell me you do not think unions' money is hidden in mattresses.

Over the decades the unions have "invested" heavily into the democrat party. Here is their spending in 2008 on campaign contributions.

I would imagine that union members would much prefer that their dues--go for their benefits--versus filling the pockets of democrat politicians.

No, just the most anti-union administration since Reagan.

Dance in the streets.

What do you expect the non-union private sector to do?

In a huge public blow to the electoral fortunes of both President Obama and the Democratic Party, the president of the AFL-CIO said Thursday that organized labor is preparing to ditch Democrats and go it alone in building up its own grassroots structure.

Specifically, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka told reporters that the nation’s largest labor federation will scale back their involvement with the Democratic Party in advance of the 2012 elections.

In 2008, unions spent over $400 million for Obama's election. Asked if the AFL’s move is a huge blow to Obama, Democratic pollster Doug Schoen told Newsmax.TV: “Absolutely. Obama needs to get labor back and I think he’ll be courting them furiously in the weeks and months to come."

While Trumka had nothing but scathing words for the tea party movement, he laid out a scenario that very much mirrored the tea party’s grassroots structure and its clout in the GOP. The vision is for big labor to wield the clout that it once had inside the Democratic Party and on the liberal end of the spectrum in American politics.

Trumka made it clear that his plan will cost the Democrats both contributions and labor volunteers in many districts almost immediately. That would cripple key Democratic get-out-the-vote efforts in many swing districts on Election Day.

“We’re going to use a lot of our money to build structures that work for working people” Trumka said, according to Politico.“You’re going to see us give less money to build structures for others, and more of our money will be used to build our own structure.”

Trumka’s remarks came after the news earlier this week that the AFL-CIO will set up a so-called super PAC to spend unlimited amounts of money on political activity for next year’s elections and beyond. Trumka confirmed Thursday that the union is moving forward with plans to create the PAC.

The AFL-CIO’s outside effort will help keep union-backed candidates more accountable for promises made on the campaign trail, Trumka said.

“Let’s assume we spent $100 in the last election,” he said, explaining the union’s position.

“The day after Election Day, we were no stronger than we were the day before,” said Trumka. “If we had spent that [$100] on creating a structure for working people that would be there year round, then we are stronger.”

Trumka also said that many labor leaders are weighing whether to skip the party’s 2012 convention.

No, this is the unions gasping for air before they die completely.

They are no longer necessary. It's time they just fade away.

Good riddance, ya' corrupt, dirty bastards.

Yet Obama will still win reelection in 2012.

*sigh* Obama is ever so dreamy...

He's not far enough left for me, but he'll do in a pinch.

I'm just telling you what is going to happen. Deep down you realize the republican field has too pander too far right to win the nomination. They won't be able to move back to the middle for the general.
Dood, you can't even think for yourself. Don't tell me what I realize.

THAT is the BEST NEWS I have heard from unions in a mighty long time.

Well--that's certainly a lot of money that dems and Obama were counting on for the 2012 election cycle that just went up in "smoke"---:lol:

It's about time they developed a BRAIN.

People who hate unions are either

1) very wealthy
2) hate hard working people
3) jealous
4) business owners

Facts are facts. Without unions workers would be way behind the 8 ball. It looks as if things are heading backwards for workers in this country. Keep them down, keep them poor. I would much much rather collect unemployment than work for minimum wage. You can take that one to the bank. And low and behold, I can honestly say I have never paid a union due in my life. But the trend is being set for low paying jobs to be on the horizon. I hope nobody applies for them. Sarcasm.
