I would have chosen Clive Owen, after seeing him play King Arthur. He's very Bond-like. But I can't imagine getting this worked up over it, either, before even seeing the film.

Angry Bond Fans Threaten to Boycott Film
Tue Feb 21, 9:26 PM ET

NEW YORK - They're shaken, stirred and just plain angry. And several months late with their response. A group of James Bond fans have launched a Web site, http://www.craignotbond.com, to protest British actor Daniel Craig replacing Pierce Brosnan in the 007 film franchise, and boycott the upcoming Bond movie "Casino Royale."

The fair-haired Craig, whose recent screen credits include "Munich" and "The Jacket," was tapped last October to play the secret-agent icon.

"EON Productions angered fans around the world when they fired Pierce Brosnan at the height of his popularity as Bond," said a statement on the site. "To add insult to injury, EON cast a short, blond, odd-looking Daniel Craig in the role of Bond."

"Craig, described by The New York Times as having a 'pale, flattened face and large, fleshy ears' is a terrible choice for Bond. If EON Productions and Sony Pictures will not accept they've made a big mistake, then Bond fans promise to boycott Casino Royale!"

Calls by The Associated Press to EON Productions and a representative for Craig were not immediately returned on Tuesday.

Brosnan stepped into the shoes of dashing predecessors Sean Connery and Roger Moore to play a blue-eyed, dark-haired Bond in "Tomorrow Never Dies," "The World Is Not Enough" and "Die Another Day."

In its statement, the Web site claimed EON did not want to pay for Brosnan or other high-profile actors Hugh Jackman and Clive Owen as replacements.

Clive Owen would be good, but there's just something about him.... He's not a BIG guy or anything, but physically, his presence onscreen is more intimidation than suave, which is not what you want for James Bond. Maybe I'm just likening him with his character in Closer too much. By the way, if you're a fan of his, definitely check that movie out, it's a little hard to watch at times (VERY strong language and people just plain being horrible to each other), but it's his best role to date, in my opinion.

Thanks, Dan. I just became a sort of fan this past weekend, so I will have fun discovering his movies.

Btw, I thought he was quite miscast as Arthur, but I tried to see past that.

This could be like when Connery stopped doing Bond. George Lazenby was a terrible choice, but essentially became a sacrificial lamb. Bond fans would've rejected anybody, but with a choice that terrible, they weren't that angry when Roger Moore took the role, even though he probably wasn't the best choice.

    I liked Roger Moore. ;)

Anyway, Firing Pierce was the dumbest move the Bond crew has made since the Connery fiasco. Pierce was Bond. To this generation with the video games and such, James Bond is Pierce Brosnan. No one is going to buy a blonde Bond or a scrawny little dude playing him. Ive been highly entertained by the recent Bonds despite not going to the theater to see them. Goldeneye was very good. Too bad they've gone and pulled a Timothy Daulton on us.
