I am not a big fan, but I like his curmudgeonly style...and this is the best rant I have heard from him in a long time (if it was his)

numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are

things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens...Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door. Guns do not make you a killer.

DON'T PASS IT ON...

:(

Origins: Curmudgeonly 60 Minutes commentator Andy Rooney may have delivered a vituperative essay on French politics in 2003, but this piece elaborating on his own politics is not his creation. The text quoted above is too reactionary even for the acerbic Rooney, and the language used doesn't sound like him. ("Shoot your sorry ass" just isn't the kind of phrase Andy Rooney employs on television.) Just to be thorough, we checked the transcripts of all of Andy Rooney's 60 Minutes pieces from the last ten years, and nothing like this item turned up.

Moreover, Rooney himself denied it in 2003, saying:
About a year ago, I became aware of a more serious theft of my name and it is so hurtful to my reputation that it calls for legal action against the thief. Hundreds of people have written asking if I really wrote the 20 detestable remarks made under my name that have had such wide circulation on the Internet.

[...]

Some of the remarks, which I will not repeat here, are viciously racist and the spirit of the whole thing is nasty, mean and totally inconsistent with my philosophy of life. It is apparent that the list of comments has been read by hundreds of thousands of Americans, many of whom must believe that it accurately represents opinions of mine that I don't dare express in my column or on television. It is seriously damaging to my reputation.
The final two items on the list are probably a good tipoff that either this collection was written (by an as yet unidentified author) as a parody of the "A Few Minutes With Andy Rooney" spots on 60 Minutes, or someone appended Andy Rooney's name to an unattributed piece because it "seemed like something he would say." Either way, whoever created this version appears to have lifted some parts from an earlier piece known as "Yes, I Guess I am A BAD American" and falsely credited to comedian George Carlin.

Yeah, sorry...while some of the sentiments expressed are fantastic...to believe that Rooney...the man who called Mel Gibson a nutjob for having the audacity to speak publically about his strong religious views... doesn't seem to be the type to respect people's opinions, even if he disagrees with them.

OK...so see my disclaimer in my first line...."if it was him...."

Regardless of the author, the sentiments are worthy of applause, in my opinion.

Yup - the disclaimer was noted, and I wasn't 'coming down' on you...just answering the question 'if it was him'.

Not trying to bust your balls..really.

same here...no, "it wasn't him!!!!" finger-pointing was implied...I was responding more from the "Andy Rooney is a jerk" standpoint! :)

Hallah-FUCKIN'-Lullah!!!

Excuse my french.

So I guess I can go about posting here without the halo of ill repute hanging over my head?

If you're a racist, Rooney is not. Some of those do sound like him though.

Rooney is not a racist, but is a tinfoil. Which do sound like him, oh wise one?

maybe this one:

> I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals. I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries!

Basically just a racist diatribe, though, do you disagree?

Considering the high schoolers I know, in a predominately white county, I DO disagree. They have the tatoos and piercings. Perhaps YOU are the racist?

We seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot. I have no problem with ink or piercings. Pussing lips are kind of nasty, though, especially when serving you food...lol. I agree with THAT and that sounds like Andy Rooney to me.

Don't see how anything I said could offend...

Hey JayW ,
What if you were to learn that these quotes were actually made by Chris Rock in one of his stand-up comedy shows on HBO . . . would they still be racist?

Racism n.1. belief in he superiority of a particular race 2. antagonism between people of different races. 3. the theory that human abilities are determined by race. . . . .Oxford American Dictionary

Who cares JW? You do . You are the one that is claiming racism because you assume that the words come from a white person's mouth .You sound like a young person that is so afraid to be labeled a racist that you accuse someone quoting statistics as being racist .
Chris Rock stated in one of his first HBO specials that black people were more racist than white people . He claimed he loved black people but he hated ******* . What did he mean by that?
Racism is a cop-out line of bullshit . Everyone can be classified as a racist in some form or another as defined above. Some are more blatant and take it to a higher level but I believe everyone has it in them . In my life I have noticed certain truths , whomever has the power tends to show how racist they are no matter what race . Houston's former Mayor , a black man , had a disproportionately black administration . Hispanic contractors tend to hire a lot of hispanics . White people tend to associate with other whites , Vietnamese tend to trust other Vietnamese. Of all races I have come in contact with I would have to say American whites tend to be the least racist . In Denver , I lived in a predominately hispanic neighborhood . One of my neighbors once said that I knew more about Santana than any white boy he had ever met . He hated blacks and used the N word a lot . He also hated "wet backs" even though he was a 3rd generation Hispanic American . I was OK for a white guy because I liked Santana . I have seen racism all over the world , ask a Japanese person what they think of other races , if he is honest he will say that the Japanese are vastly superior to anyone else . If I as a 5' 9'' white boy goes into Harlem and tries to get into a pickup basketball game , I will be laughed at and called a stupid honky at best , in reality I'll probably have the crap beat out of me , everything I have on me stolen and left with a very sore ass . . . this is just the world we live in .
According to the definition , if you believe black people are better atheletes than other races , that makes you a racist . If you believe white men can't jump , you are a racist . If you think Mexicans are lazy as a race , you are a racist .
There is racism and there is statistical truth , the two are very different .
Sorry about the rant but I am so very bored with people using that rediculous term with such ease .Oh and by the way , my favorite neighbor has a wonderful family and they happen to be black . My favorite tennis players are the Williams sisters , one of my favorite golfers is Tiger Woods and I am a big fan of Al Jareau , Luther Vandross , Anita Baker , Jimi Hendrix , and of course Richard Pryor and Chris Rock .
