UPDATE 3-New York pension fund to sue BP for investment losses

[Snip]

June 23 (Reuters) - New York state's pension fund plans to sue BP Plc (BP.L) (BP.N) to recover losses from the drop in the company's stock price following the worst oil spill in U.S. history, state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said on Wednesday.
New York's Common Retirement Fund has a long history of serving as the lead plaintiff in shareholder lawsuits. DiNapoli said the fund owned more than 19 million shares when the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico in April.

DiNapoli, the sole trustee of the $132.6 billion state pension fund, has hired law firm Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll to represent the fund.

"BP misled investors about its safety procedures and its ability to respond to events like the ongoing oil spill and we're going to hold it accountable," said the Democratic comptroller, who will stand for election in November.
Dennis MacKee, spokesman for the $104 billion Florida state pension system -- one the largest in the United States -- said: "We're monitoring the lawsuit and all developments," adding, "but we have not come to any decision."

Wowsers! BP? Kiss your ass goodbye. The gravy train is on the road and guess who's on the menu?

these types of cases are not as easy as they appear....

and i'm not sure yet whether BP is solely responsible...while they are the face of the disaster for being in charge of the rig....we don't have all the facts on what exactly went wrong

True enough. We have though a State as New York that is leaking people...ironically to Florida and other RED STATE venues sans State income Tax...

How else are they gonna make up the revenue lost? Fact is they're considering such a thing rather than cut back on their programs and *GASP* their own bloated Government?

BP is another Cash Cow another group of Statists want to milk for what they can for poor planning. Their excuse for the suit is piss-poor. But then? Weren't we told when Bush had fronted putting a copuple percent of Socialist Security into Stocks and Bonds for a better return...was rebuffed by the Statists as "Too risky"...

accidents happen, the investers knew their were certain risks before they bought stock in BP. Until after the investigation is complete it's still classified as an accident. Now if it has been proven that BP is at fault then I believe the investers have the right to get back everything they lost.
