Analysis: Obama calls on Americans to make tough choices to help recovery

It would be nice if he would ask people on welfare to make a tough choice and work for a living... But that may cost him votes so we won't hear him say that anytime soon...

By the way, when was the last time you heard a non-taxpayer thank a tax payer for taking care of them????????

About the same time I heard a CEO of a failing company thank a taxpayer for the $billions we used to bail them out.

Add up all the welfare used by individuals in this country and it's not even a drop in the bucket when it comes to corporate welfare. Do I hear people like you crying about that?

By the way, in your best guestimate... How many welfare recipients are there vs. Companies that have been bailed out? Thanks.

I think you are confused.... I am against bailing out companies that want a government handout... you know...a conservative... Not a liberal who is only against certain bailouts...

I think it's the American government that needs to make the tough choices on how they can drastically cut their own spending.

I love how people always come in and reply to one of the other replies instead addressing the original issue.... Evidentally those people how nothing to add to the topic...

I think most people agree that those CEOs = Chief Embezzlement Officers need to go to jail. That's not my question. What tough choices do Americans need to make?

Excellent questions, and I'm curious to hear the answer myself.

Hmmm...choices?

Shall we shit or go blind? What say ye, citizens?

hmmm...

Obama is simply stating that we're all going to have to live a lower standard of living than what we've been used to. Despite all the spin he and the Dems are trying to put on this, he realizes this isn't changing overnight, and all Americans are going to suffer for a while.

My problem with Obama is that I think he actually undertands the situation fairly well and realizes that this stimulus package isn't going to do much and may actually do more harm than good, but he feels he has to do something because doing nothing would not be viewed favorably by the masses of those who put him in office to begin with. He's already running for re-election. That's why he is emphacszing sacrafice; he wants people to feel as if their sacrifices will be a part of the healing process to get us on the right track. Basically, he doesn't want to take the blame for a slow recovery, which is what this is going to be regardless of which steps he and Congress may have chosen to take.

Lower standards in living! Why? I live within my means. I shall not nor will I need to lower my standards of living. Just proves from what you are saying we are in this mess ( part of it anyway )because people choose to live outside their means.

If you happen to be one of those who lose their job or are forced into taking a pay cut to keep it, then your standard of living will be less than what it is now. You personally may not be effected, but millions are being effected. Not everyone is finding themselves lucky enough to keep their job, regardless of them living within their means or not.

Auditor is correct. obamalama said it during the campaign.. to paraphrase "We cannot expect to eat as much as we want, to set our thermostats on 72, and to drive around in suv's and expect the rest of the world to be okay with that." now I notice obamalama hasn't given up his suv, or his habit of setting the thermostat on 88 and I bet he eats as much as he wants,,, hypocrite.
