It's very possible that a lot of people felt insulted by Romney's remarks. A lot of people among the 47% who don't pay federal income taxes. But this might be not a bad thing, and instead a good opportunity. I think Romney should address these people saying something like that:
"Look, I know that many of you are not happy with your current situation. I know that many of you want to have an opportunity to have a better life. If you give me your trust and your vote, I promise you you will have this opportunity. Do you really think Mr. Barack Obama wants you to succeed? For Obama, the more people are dependent on government, the better. So, let's try to do something better than that. Mitt Romney".
I think that would be a good start.
