An increase in recent years of Indian nationals crossing into the U.S. through Mexico to seek asylum

On a recent visit to the federal prison in Victorville, U.S. Rep. Mark Takano was caught by surprise. Of the hundreds of immigrants detained there, he learned, possibly 40% had traveled from India seeking asylum.



The Riverside Democrat had expected to see a high concentration of Central American detainees, many of them fathers who had been separated from their children.

And if it is asylum that they're looking to get away from their "oppressors" in India, and they're coming here through Mexico, why not just stay in Mexico ? Or someplace much closer to India than the US ?

It is simple, we have more room here. India is over crowded.

And if it is asylum that they're looking to get away from their "oppressors" in India, and they're coming here through Mexico, why not just stay in Mexico ? Or someplace much closer to India than the US ?

Indians in America are a wonderful community ... instead of making them come through the back door, we should be bringing them here with First Class tickets.
