maybe, but that does not explain why the majority of them did not commit other crimes while here...you'd think they would all be burglars, or rapists, or murders and all be on criminal row....and are the employers that hire them criminals as well, and what is their punishment for not respecting the law of the country they are actually citizens in?

Also, before I answer...what is amnesty? Can you please define what amnesty is to you before i answer? ;)

Care

I don't really care that majority of them didn't commit "crimes", excluding the fact that being illegal in this country is already a crime. Majority of them didn't commit crimes in their country of origin, should we invite them in too?

Yes, employers that knowingly employ illegals are breaking a law. None of our politicians voted to let illegals to cross our border, but they did vote on laws that suppose to be enforced in our country. Now they are turning blind eye on the same laws they voted on?

I listed some of those laws above. Are we to give illegal aliens amnesty for violating those laws while Americans citizens have been prosecuted for violating the very same laws?

I will have to ask McCain, but I believe his plan was not to allow those that committed identity theft to be able to work towards amnesty...only the ones that just committed the civil offense of crossing the border, did he have a plan to give them citizenship after 5 more years, paying a fine, learning english and other requirements...or something like that.....let me see if I can find the plan he had originally created or supported that a bunch of others jumped on the bandwagon for as well....

I heard some of his points before the election, but I would like to read that plan, if you find it, please post it here. Bush in 2005/06 tried the same thing, he wanted to allow the illegals here to work towards becomming legal, but was soundly defeated by both Republicans and Democrats. But then, the Democrats wanted it to not work, so they could have the issue to beat Republicans over the head with in the 2006 election.

Of course, McCain couldn't say that he want them out of here, he had to compromise and that put him closer to the left. He did it on many issues and that's why, in my opinion, he lost the election.

I agree, there are many "special cases" that will require close(r) attention, for instance, children born in US are automatically American citizens. I would change that, and have a child get citizenship of mother's country or origin. I agree also, that many of them are working here for years. But they are working here illegally for years. To me, those who work on fake documents are worse for the economy and employment then those who work for cash. Giving them amnesty, would be the largest wholesale screwing of the American citizen/voter in recent history.

Special cases, yes, there must be. But 12 million of them, thought I am a special case, too. I want a better life. Free from illegal aliens . They take away my freedom. I know what they do, they are so ignorant of American law, what hypocrites they are. All those illegal aliens impinge on my rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I am not being a sarcacastic jerk, either, They have no legal right to be here. My great grandparents were legal immigrants. Special cases? Like WHAT? Ok. Mexicans fleeing drug cartels, maybe. Otherwise. It’s not like they were fleeing Nazi Fascism or Socialist Pogroms, is it? No, they lie and exaggerate. Or they just ignore international immigration law. That is OK , it’s about diversity? It’s about delusion or bullshit, plain pure and simple.

For some of you would be good to see the movie "Treasure of the Sierra Madre"... the three stake holders decide to murder the interloper. He didn't leave them any reasonable doubts.

"Come one, come all? That's how it's going to be?" – said Fred Dobbs (Bogart) on the idea of sharing his gold mine with an interloper.

Why we would share our health care with illegal aliens? They were not invited here, they are interlopers.

We own this gold mine, our kids own this gold mine, it’s legacy we insist on passing onto future generation of Americans and legal aliens who can only improve this gold mine, and not to ruin it.

Look at all those illegals who enjoy all the privileges of this society and dare to ask for more, on our expense and expense of future generations. No, I don't want any harm to them, I just want them to respect our laws. If we let them stay and give them amnesty, we're openly inviting more to come...

We don't need stinking documents...

Shoot them as they crawl across the border.

Border security = national security

Hmm. Do innocent people need amnesty if they are honest , to begin with? It begs the question. How about, amnesty for AIG, or the folks from ENRON? Boggles the mind, what HONESTY is , or Amnesty, for that matter.

Simply put they are breaking the law and should not be rewarded. To give them amnesty is to slap all of those jumping through the hoops to do it legally in the face. To give them amnesty is to reward and promote illegal activity.

That is one of the major problems here in the U.S., that is the lack of respect for the rule of law from the Government down to the common Joe. We must as a society hold the government and the court system accountable to the rule of law.

Pagan only had 3 posts... But they were noteworthy...

Or were they?... :dunno:

This thread makes me lose my faith in humanity.

Here, this gives me a positive solution to focus on and work toward:

Earned Amnesty
music video for Sustainable Campus converting sweatshop labor to workstudy jobs

We can all work together, including creating jobs and communities for immigrants and criminal traffickers who owe restitution for violations proportionally to the crime committed,
to create sustainable campuses and military teaching hospitals along the border.

You can be for or against amnesty and agree on ways to either sponsor immigrants or require violators of laws to pay back restitution into the system to be fair to law abiding citizens.

Pack them up. Every last one and send them back. If there are infants whose parentage cannot be determined, drop them off at the Catholic Church. That's their historical job.

The first amnesty we gave illegals only seemed to make things worse. Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Don't follow these issues, but I'd assume Ammnesty is because catching, processing, and deporting every last illegal alien would cost a lot more than simply giving them all their Mulligan. So, yes, move the goal and declare victory.

It ain't complicated, and the American public is, by and large, unanimous in its feelings about the issue(s).

The issue is not "amnesty" or deportation; these are just political effluvia.

The fact is that we will NEVER be able to round up all those who came here illegally (or everstayed their visas illegally), and their children, and ship them back home. There are just too many of them and we don't have the resources to do it. Also, there are huge vested interests, here and abroad, who are getting rich by virtue of the current situation, and they are going to fight like hell to defeat any mass-deportation plan.

Another fact is that Democrat politicians are creaming in their jeans at the prospect of making these line-jumpers VOTING CITIZENS within the foreseeable future, and this hope has been codified in a two-word expression, "immigration reform."

"Immigration reform" does not mean reforming the immigration laws to make them more rational or fair, because another fact is that they are pretty reasonable and fair right now - they are just not being enforced. Foreigners who want to come here and are willing to play by the rules get fucked, and the line jumpers get coddled.

"Amnesty" literally means absolving the guilty of their guilt. Thus, we could have "amnesty" w/r/t our "illegals" in a number of different ways. They could be given "a path to citizenship," a path to a Green Card, or we could create a new status for the line jumpers. We could give them status as "guest workers" (provided they register), and allow them to remain, as long as they "keep their hands clean."

But this allows a tsunami of new "citizens" in the future as all the "anchor babies" come of age and start voting.

"Immigration reform" should also include a reversal of the perverse court decision that grants natural-born citizenship to anyone "born...in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof." WE ARE THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD THAT GRANTS NATURAL CITIZENSHIP TO THESE OUTLAW BABIES, and it goes without saying that this benevolence should stop as soon as possible.
