And the Dims are so bent on their ignorant impeachment train that they refuse to even consider any legislation to fix this and other infrastructure problems.

A more than two-year investigation identified 1688 high-hazard dams rated in poor or unsatisfactory condition as of last year

The dangerous dams were located in 44 states and Puerto Rico, and loom over homes, businesses, highways or entire communities

If they don't hold, the dams could unleash life-threatening floods - there have already been 1,000 dam breaks in 40 years that have killed 34 people

The actual number of unsafe dams is almost certainly higher, because some states declined to provide condition ratings for their dams

Why do we get this from a British newspaper/site instead of an American one?

We`re still waiting for Trump`s plan to fix the infrastructure as he said he would do when he was campaigning in 2016. Which legislation is it that the "dims" as a 12 year old would call them, are refusing to consider? Perhaps by the time you`re old enough to have a driver`s license everything will be fixed.

Infrastructure has been ignored for decades...

From roads to dams to our telecommunications we are lagging behind and it has just not been on the Democrats watch either.

So both sides... Wait everyone need to own this issue and stop pointing their crooked little fingers...

I get rather conflicted about dams. They are very useful but not particularly environmentally or ecological friendly. I would have to look at each dam on its merits to decide whether I thought it should stay or go. I am largely opposed to low head dams as they serve little purpose other than to make it look pretty and to drown people.

Much of our infrastructure was built with federally guaranteed loans to states in FDR's New Deal during the '30s. Both the states and the federal government have been passing the buck on maintenance ever since. The fed's attitude has often been that they met their obligation and responsibility by helping to finance the projects, to begin with, and the state's attitudes have often been they can not afford the maintenance cost. So, the buck gets passed over and over and the buck has been being passed for decades.

not his job or that of the feds,,,

its time the states did what they are supposed to do and get the feds out of our lives

Just remember that the ratings don't mean these structures will fail under normal expected operating conditions. The ratings could also imply not deterioration, but an increased standard isn't being met, something that was changed recently, but was not applicable during design and construction of the structure.

What these ratings usually imply is that some factor of safety that would apply in an extreme event can't be trusted to be reliable, and thus increases the risk of structural failure.

the feds have met they responsibility and breached it,,,
its the states that have failed the people,,,well them and the people themselves

It's laughable to pretend our aging, crumbling, and, failing river infrastructures is the fault of one party or another. They both own this mess. My region's locks and dams are in a critical state of disrepair and older than sin, but elected fools (and their sycophants) are too busying blaming each other and dragging their feet. Meanwhile...

Ya, it's like if the feds provide a grant of millions of dollars for purchasing new police equipment like patrol cars and radios, the recipient of the new equipment comes back five years later complaining because of their failure to maintain or replace the equipment.

If I'm not mistaken maintenance is always figured into the original costs of projects like this,,and 100% of the time they overspend and cant do maintenance,,

I blame it more on all government's falling into the trap of wanting to appear to be "doing something", and thus prioritizing low value items that can be easily accomplished.

So you get harping on Global warming, straw bans, sanctuary city declarations (for guns and/or illegals), and other low grade bullshit instead of work on less sexy but more important items.

A Dilbert comic explained this effect in the corporate world:

You are mistaken. These projects were unique and different from normal projects in that the role of the feds was more like a bank financing a mortgage. In some cases, such as TVA, feds retained ownership, but in the majority, once the state paid off the loan, they became the primary owners of the project.

TVA???

and I was talking more about maintenance figured into cost,,,it happens all the time in highway projects,,,

the devils in the details of the original contract

The Repugs have had 3 years in control, two of which they held both houses. Where are your infrastruct bills?

The House passed 4 infrastructure bills in October...where are they?

How many other bills are piling up on Mitch McConnels desk?

What have the Repugs been doing for the last years besides packing courts and trying to destroy our healthcare system?
