Newly declared senator Jim Molan tells Chris Kenny Australia should be more “independently minded” considering the current environment in America.

“In the last year or so, statements by officials indicate Americans themselves are deeply worried about the relative decline of their own military.”

Mr Molan has called for the government to reconsider the amount spent on defence which currently sits at 2% of GDP.

“The world is changing. Uncertainty is increasing at a rate which is exponential.

“If [America’s] relative power has decreased then surely we should really question whether 2% is still the appropriate number.”

He says the work being done to expand defence resources is encouraging but progress is too slow.

“The $200 billion which this government has put into defence capability is very good.

“We’re building ships as fast as we can but from a strategic point of view it’s very slow.”

Calls for increase in defence spending following US military decline

What
I would do is import more muslims who hate you so you can fight them and the chinese at the same time.....

What the hell would an Aussie senator know about how Americans feel about their military? The U.S. Military is doing fine, thank you. Maybe Aussie politicians are confused about how well Americans trusted the Obama administration's handling of the U.S. Military

Will the US be able to defeat 1.2 billion Chinese?

Are they all going to become long-distance swimmers or something like that?

What the people don't understand, China, Russia and the US all would lose big time if they tried to fight each other. China has a great span of ocean to the US and vice versa. Although the US could muster the resources to get troops to China, there wouldn't be enough to get there to matter. Same goes for China even if they had a good deep water troop transports which they don't. China attacking Russia, there are only a few corridors that they can enter and the same goes for Russia into China. The only way for any of those 3 to fight each other with any hopes of winning is full on Nuclear and no one wins that one.

No we could fight a conventional war with China and win it, they would eventually run out of ships , aircraft and missiles

There would be NO ground invasion. You can't win a war on air by itself. If you do take an area, you need boots on the ground to occupy it or your enemy will just move back in and rebuild. They would move their heavy industry outside of your air power and out produce you. Junk wins if you have enough and can get enough. No matter what the cartoon says, this is unwinnable unless both sides are willing to lose a few million troops in the process and reduce their militaries to a 3rd world power. Plus, the Chinese would go on War Production. The US would not for much longer. Therefore, the Chinese would out produce the US in the opening couple of years and replace their assets more quickly.

The cartoon assumes that both countries would only use what they currently have in the Inventory. This would affect the US but the Chinese going to War Production would change all that. In the end, exactly what would have been accomplished? Nothing except the deflating of both countries. And I suspect North Korea would see this as a good time to invade South Korea since SK would not have the support of the US at that time.

Robert Johnson of Business Insider wrote the worst article on Guantanamo Bay that you will ever read
If they gave out an award for journalistic malpractice, I would bet my left foot that Robert Johnson of Business Insider would be nominated for what is probably the worst article ever written about the detainee hunger strike at Guantanamo Bay.

believe me---from reading here om USMB, on news comments, etc--Americans have no idea about the military or military history
they wouldn't know a SPAA from a tank
Americans are some of the best trained in the world
